Hello all,
I have just recently purchased a Samsung BD-P1600 from Bestbuy and was extremely excited that I could access Pandora and Netflix from my blu-ray player. The problem is that I am unable to connect to the internet through a LAN connection. My ISP is Comcast and I have contacted both Comcast and Samsung regarding the connection issue and they keep pointing me to each other for resolving the problem. When I run the network connection test, my player passes the first three tests (which include MAC Address, IP Address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS server, and gateway ping) but when it gets to the last test called "Internet Service Test" I recieve a failure and the comment is "Your network cannot operate properly". I have connected my computer to the same LAN connection that I am attempting to use, and there are no problems. My ISP says that they can not block the connection to equipment other than computers which was suggested as a possible problem by Samsung. Niether Samsung nor Comcast have been able to fix/help with the problem and if it cannot be resolved I will have to resort to returning the player. Can anyone help as I would love to have this functionality. Is it possible that I may need to buy the wireless adapter and connect to my internet through that (I wouldn't think that this would be any different than using the LAN connection but am up for any suggestions as I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone)? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hi, I experienced the same problem. It seems as the Samsung BD player is testing the network speed and finds it inadequate! My ISP is Rogers, I had a similar issue with my Samsung's TV Lan connection, I called them, they said there is nothing that they could do and the next day it started working!
I look forward to your responses, thank you.
mpriscal77,
Could it be as simple as the ethernet cable? What kind of cable exactly is it, and how long is it?
It's possible that the ethernet jack may not be working properly. If you're thinking about buying the dongle or replacing the machine itself, you might consider upgrading to the BD-P3600, which includes the dongle and onboard memory for BD-Live features - for about the same price.
I'd like to assist in setting up, but I'm not sure what I can offer outside of what two other tech support people couldn't.

Help. I had my rig working fine. BD-P1600 saw my Airport Extreme network and worked like a charm. I did the update for the BD-P1600 and now I cannot get it to work. Changed everything I can think of but it will not work. Sees the network, but now the signal shows as weak and it fails to connect. Now I'm cut off from Netflix and Pandora (Which we enjoyed) and I'm out all this trouble shooting time. PLus I can't take it back as it's now way out of return period.
I have 4 laptops, two desktops and 3 iPhones that see the network and work with no issues.
It's frustrating as it worked great till I updated.
Help!!
synthlabs,
I'm looking into this. The Airport Extreme is somewhat proprietary, and while other devices may work, not all will. Again, I'll see what I can do to escalate this and see if there is a fix available.

It worked for 4 months. Upgraded and it's gone. I'll be even more frustrated if I have to move my base station and use ethernet since I paid almost a $100 extra for the wireless option on this thing.
Hi,
My internet in my home is completely wireless and I am having trouble accessing it via my bd-p1600 player. I keep getting a message stating "Cannot find Access Point."
Anyone having the same problem?
I've tried two different cat5e cables, all different ports on my router (Linksys WRT54g, for what it's worth... yeah, I know), which have known- working devices on it.
After upgrading the firmware, the ethernet connection has completely failed. Even running a hard reset on the player has yielded no resolution. And no word from Samsung yet.
Frustrated doesn't begin to cover it.
No reply from Samsung. DId their update and lost my wireless. Wasted $100 on that wireless option. Now it's hooked up direct with ethernet and a new issue has popped up that's even more maddening. Netflix will work most of the time, but the player now just randomly loses connection with the TV. That's with NEtflix, BluRay discs, and DVDs. Yep. Just, plays and then black screen, or error message that says weak or lost signal. This is feeling like a $500 boat anchor at this point.
I'm in a similar boat. Purchased a BluRay 1590 and Samsung USB Wifi adapter and everything worked fine with OS v1.3. Then 1590 asked for permission to upgrade OS (to 2.2), which provided Blockbuster and YouTube gadgets in addition to existing Netflix and Pandora. Upgrade apparently a mistake, as now system fails the NW Test. Subsequent USB <downgrade?> to OS v1.4 didn't resolve. Oddly, Netflix and Pandora continue to work as always, but BB and YT report "can't see NW", and apparently wireless upgrades are going to be a thing of the past. Very strange. I bought 1590 for Netflix and Pandora, and they still work, so I can't complain too much, but Samsung needs to get this straightened out. Upgrades should provide more capability not less, fix things, not break them.
fmercadozx,
Updates shouldn't be a thing of the past.
2.3 is available on the website right now, and may fix some of the issues you are experiencing.

HDTech,
I upgraded my firmware two nights ago. UI changes included the additional streaming functions, so I can verify the upgrade. However, my Ethernet connection still fails. Any suggestions?
Look at my messages. One each month and no solution. Updates are not fixing the problem and my machine gets worse. Now it loses connection with my Samsung TV when playing DVDs and BluRay, so it's a total lemon. The updates started the problems and seem to get worse with each one. I was pissed when I found out I spent nearly $100 on the wireless option and the update made that useless, but now the whole thing is going down the tubes. Nearly $450 on a unit that won't consistently do anything it's supposed to do. I can't get a refund because I've had mine too long. Go get your refund before it's too late. Not worth the gamble to see if yours works.
I understand that sometimes problems arise, but a company that doesn't offer a refund on a product with this many problems is a company that doesn't deserve your money. Not in these times. Not in any times.
bishop375,
If you bypass the router and plug it straight into the ethernet port on the modem, are you able to connect that way? If so, we can narrow it down to the router.

Samsung_HD_Tech,
All NW tests passed when I purchased the 1590 with OS1.3. And with all subsequent upgrades Netflix and Pandora continue to work fine with my wireless setup. But ever since a series of 'upgrade' from 1.3 (to 2.2->1.4->2.3->2.4) the NW Test fails (but passes all other NW tests, including Ping). I suppose as a consequence of NW Test failure, neither Blockbuster or YouTube will work (they complain of lack of NW access), and I don't get any more notice of pending wireless upgrade. Haven't tried BD Live, but suspect it wouldn't work either.
