Memory upgrade

by wililink30 - 9/23/09 5:56 PM

Hi, I would like to know what is the max memory speed for for a Dell Dimension E521 desktop, which is what I have. My dimension has an AMD ATHLON 64 x2 + 3600 1.9ghz processor. It can support up to 4gb's of memory. It has 2 512mb 667 5300 ddr2 memory but I want to upgrade to four 1gb sticks. I was searching online for memory and the memory speeds that are shown to be compatible with the E521 are, 4200, 5300, and 6400. Now, the reason I want to upgrade my dimension's memory is because I will be upgrading to Windows 7 and I want to run the 64bit version and want the fastest memory that I can get for my pc. I would appreciate the help.

That even with the faster memory, 99.99% of these machines will still run the bus at the programmed speed. I'd just head to crucial.com and not overpay for speedy parts that don't add speed.
