Canon SX120 IS

It is the replacement for last years model (SX110IS).
The only change they made was to go from 9 megapixels to 10 megapixels.

There are no reviews of the SX120 IS yet, but I would expect it will get the same good reviews that the SX110 got.

Here is what the reviewer had to say about the SX110IS:

I did notice that on Canon's website it showed that it had 10X digital zoom, but it go to dpreview.com it shows it only has up to 4X digital zoom all for the Canon Powershot SX120 here are the webpages:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=17480#ModelTechSpecsAct

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0908/09081903canonsx120is.asp

Now who exactly am I suppose to trust?
Oh and thanks for your help thus far!
and any more help to solve this little confusion would be greatly appreciated.

You looked at the wrong area

The dpreview page does say, in the first sentence and in the specs, that it has a 10x zoom(36-360mm). The part that you seen was actually the digital zoom and not the optical zoom. Digital zoom is like cropping a picture on your computer, it's really worthless on a camera.

Do you...

Do you think that their would be a better camera choice for me? or not?

Basically I will be using this camera to take pictures of family (people), landscapes, and my three cats mainly. Oh and I guess I shouldn't forget travelling and other assorted things, and I would prefer to have some decent zoom, along with some manual features and what not.

I think that's everything?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Canon SX120IS

That camera has all the things you listed.

There are not many cameras that do in that price range.

Is there a better camera?
Yes, but be prepared to spend a lot more money.

I should have been more precise

by kalel33 - 9/23/09 2:24 PM In reply to: Thanks but.... by BKennelly

Canon and Panasonic have made the best ultrazoom cameras the past couple of years, and the Fuji and Sony have lagged behind. Either of those would not be my first choice and neither have had a review yet. By going off of the last couple of years then stay with the ones that have excelled or take a chance on cameras that have, historically, not been as good.

Thanks.....

That helped a lot! I will consider the Canon Powershot SX20 IS maybe in the future but, for right now I think I will stick with the Canon Powershot SX120 IS, and as my needs change I will consider the SX20. Other than that Thanks for your help once again.
