The reason I purchased the BDP1600 over other models was that it was suppose to play MKVs, so I updated to 2.02 (Canada firmware).
I see YOUTUBE now at start up. And it says that I am at 2.02_XAC in the System Info, but it does NOT play MKVs. I CAN play AVCHD without any problems.
1) How do I play MKV files?
Also, I cannot play region 2 DVD movies on this region 1 player. I tried Powering off/then on. I then opened then closed tray after the BR player was all booted. I then pressed REPEAT followed by (R1 code) 29334. Nothing happens. The Number '1' doesn't show up, so I can't press 9 to make it region free.
2) How do I make it Region Free?
I installed the update directly from the internet with no issue. I never any issue with X MEN:Wolv... before or after
But, the netflix timebar that shows elapsed time started not working proper (gets stuck at some time much earlier than your current position). This started happening since the firmware update 2.02 and continues in the currnet version.
Just out of curiosity, are you using a wireless or a wired network connection?
I am now having the same issue with Netflix playback on my BDP3600. I never had this issue before, I never had an issue with Netflix (many ongoing networking issues!). After this disasterous firmware update mess, I too notice that when we watch a movie and stop it for future viewing; when we return to the movie, it will resume playback as if we had only been watching for a couple of minutes. Example, we were watch LOTR: Return of the King... it is the uncut 4hr version, and we had viewed 3hr 28min of the movie when we stopped it to watch later. Later that day... we turned the player back on, started up Netflix and resumed the movie, however it began playback at 4min; forcing us to fast forward over 3hrs to where we left off... just another hassle.
How do I update my firmware if the last time I updated I ahve not been able to get back on my wireless network it goes all the way through the network test. It stops at:
X Gateway Ping?
Please help?
I was able to get and do Pandora as well as Netflicks before the firmware update.

My BD-P1600 still won't do anything. I can't get anything to appear on the screen. The one time I got it to say open, load, on and off (but not open the tray) seems to have been a fluke. I can, however, hear faint noise when it's plugged in. I have a disc stuck inside. I appreciate your efforts to get labor fees waived, but this is akin to my car's manufacturer soliciting me for a free upgrade to my car stereo, then giving the car back with a seized engine. When you offer to upgrade something and you destroy it instead, the proper response and the way to retain customers is to fix it, not to poke them in the eye with shipping fees and the suggestion that you're doing them a favor by not charging to fix what you broke.
I'm hoping that Samsung will announce a special recall program for those customers whose products they destroyed. If nothing is forthcoming very soon, I'll send a registered letter to the CEO and a copy to the General Counsel, explaining the problem. I've had good results with that approach before, since fixing the problem is usually cheaper than losing a default judgment in small claims court (or actually flying an attorney out to appear).
Again, to HD tech, I definitely appreciate that you're doing all you can do. Samsung shouldn't be leaving you to address these problems without giving you the authority to do the right thing.
stgallen,
I appreciate what you're saying.
However, I had a conversation with one of our specialists, and I felt it was the least I could do to assist the people who came to tell us about it and the people who interact here often.
Unfortunately, it's also the most I can do. I don't have authority on service matters.
But to assist in your decision and considering your time, I don't have any information regarding any program that you mentioned below.

Pine State,
Generally, you need to reenter all your settings after an update.
Once you reenter your Wireless Network details it should work again.
Pine State,
You can download and update the firmware either for a thumbdrive or an .iso file for a CD.

It ends after about 30 minutes and loses connection with wireless router.
I have a BD-1590. Since upgrading to 2.02, Blu Ray movie menus no longer display. 2.03 has the same problem. All previews play with no problem and when it is time to display the Blu Ray movie menu, the background loads but no text is displayed so it is impossible to start the movie. DVD's and Netflix work just fine. I have not tried Pandora since the upgrades.
1stevesa1,
Which movies?

I've been happily working my way through Mad Men Season 2 on my BD-P1600 when last night the system informed me of an upgrade, and asked me if I wanted to install the new 2.03 firmware.
"Sure", I said. Well, that's the end of Mad Men Season 2 for me. Since upgrading, the menus on all of the discs on that three disc set simply do not appear. A vanity clip for Lion's Gate is followed by a disclaimer about the commentary tracks... followed by the background animation and a music loop for the menu - but no menu bar! I've tried various combinations of keys to try to cause various menu behaviors to trigger, or hoping the menu would appear: nothing works.
Menus on other discs of mine work fine, including Mad Men Season 1 - it seems to be a problem specific to the combination of the new firmware and these particular discs... but it's *literally* a show stopper.
