IPOD Touch v3.1 and Podcast issues

by psturm - 9/15/09 1:44 PM

The IPOD Touch with the new upgrade version 3.1 and Podcasts don't mix. Talk about messing up a good thing. One of the main reasons I bought an IPOD touch is because of the PODCAST support. Apple has succeeded in breaking the PODCAST experience after the upgrade.

So far I have two problems. If you have many podcasts in one feed, like the CNET audio or Video feeds or the Radio Leo feed the podcasts are listed in random order this makes it very hard to find the cast you are looking for.

Also in the main PODCAST window scrolling is painfully slow and jerky.

Anyone having the same problems. I've submitted as a problem with Apple but have yet to hear back.

IPOD Touch v3.1 and Podcast issues

It goes much further than that, my friend... Firmware 3.1 for the iPhone is SERIOUSLY broken.

I started using Macs and iPods about 5 years ago. When I subscribe to a podcast, I like to listen to all of a "series" in a row, like all the BOL's I've not listened to yet, and have them in episode order. So I created a Smart Playlist where "if ((GENRE = Podcast) AND (Play Count = 0) AND (Kind <> MPEG-4) AND (Kind <> Movie)) then add it to the list.Oh, and I use Live Update to keep it updated.

This gives me all my podcasts, by subscription (i.e. BOL, CNET Live, etc) - audio only in this list, and I have a separate one for video podcasts, and only shows me those I have NOT listened to.

Yes, I know you can go into each Podcast's "list" in iPod / More on the iPhone, but this has worked for 5 years and is great when on a long commute.

What gripes me is that this has worked for FIVE FREAKIN' YEARS with no problems, and even under iTunes 9.0 / iPhone 3.0.1 it worked... But lo and behold, upgrade to 3.1 and it's FREAKIN' BROKEN. The Playlist is IGNORED, or at least the play order settings are !!

Of course, after speaking to crApple for over 90 minutes today and doing every test imaginable, they said to me "downgrade your iPhone to 3.0.1 and try it just to be sure" - only crApple have REMOVED 3.0.1 "signing" from their website. I have a copy of the firmware, but the Apple authentication server won't allow me to downgrade it !!

***, as Molly is fond of saying... Even crApple tech support can't get their collective crap together !

Hey, if there's anyone out there with an iPhone 3GS that is running 3.0.1 or 3.0 firmware, give me a yell - I can give you the step-by-step to try this for me !!!

Grrrrrr

I have the same problem

by dnscaching - 10/20/09 7:13 AM In reply to: IPOD Touch v3.1 and Podcast issues by psturm

Hello,
I experience the same problem.
I have a iPod Touch 2G.
I updated iTunes and the iPod Touch to the current version. 9.1.0.8 and 3.1.2. Both are set for German language.
Now I have got the Podcasts grouped by letter.
Whenever a new item is displayed the scrolling stops for half a second. On the first scrolling I can't scroll faster than one item height per second. I can't flip. Even very, very slow scrolling is stopping every two or three items.
Having scrolled through the podcast list (50 items) it gets faster. But it still isn't as it was in 3.0. It still stops while scrolling. I don't have that behaviour in "lists" or "albums".

Any help?

PS: Sorry for using this account.

New 3.1 upgrade bites

by haltej - 10/20/09 12:15 PM In reply to: IPOD Touch v3.1 and Podcast issues by psturm

My touch2 is just as broken. It jerks all over the place when I scroll podcasts. It doesn't anywhere else. Also, I have been getting freezeups where I hae to exit out to the home screen & go back in.
