The BD-P2500/50 was a 2008 product, and haven't been manufactured for a while. We still fix issues with discs that have new Java-coding when we're notified of those issues.

The extra $86 labor to fix my 8 month old 2550 pushed me over the edge, thank you Samsung. I got a LG-390 at best buy last night for $329. Installed it and wow what a difference goes from off to disk loaded and running in less than a min. Screen looks better (on 42” Display), all the Netflix works great, far better than the previous 2550 (2.5) firmware. Played all the disks that had failed to play on Samsung, plus it mounts the shared drives on my network and plays the files from there. No hassle, no Real Soon Now fixes to wait for.
I bet their tech support people must worry about keeping their jobs, as this baby is so solid and easy to use they must not get many calls.
I would suggest anybody trying to get the 2500/50 to work, find some fool to unload it on, or just throw it away and buy the LG. I figure I spent over 200 hours screwing with the Samsung over the 8 months and it never worked right (just keep getting the fixed in next firmware or 1st time we heard of that bs).
The 2550 should be good for Spongebob DVDs, right?

I am now thinking I will just dump that player in my 7-year olds room and a new Blu-ray player. I'm pretty sure the 2550 can handle Spongebob and Strawberry Shortcake DVDs with no problems.
Did you research other Blu-ray players which stream Netflix and find that this LG model had the most to offer? I am skeptical on that brand.

The 2500 matches up to the LG 370 which can be found for $217 the 390 adds in 2 features: Built in wireless and NTFS support (The LG’s will access your shared drives directly on PC I played DVD right off hard disk on my PC down the hall). It comes with a media player software for PC also that lets you play almost anything you can find. Movies from BitTorrents, home movies, plus my music library, and photo lib.
I also plugged a USB hard drive in to the 390 and it found all the stuff on it to show.
The 370 only reads FAT so the files are limited to 4gb each.

I have not used BD that much as the 2550 was very poor in that feature. I will do more research tonight, last night was all (Will that work? Now testing). Plus a Netflicks view of red Oct.

I loaded the new firmware version and now I can not play my old blue-ray. I called Samsung and they were useless. I will never buy Samsung again. They are taking advantage of the consumer and should be sued.

My 2500 also will not play BR or DVD. I keep it as an overpriced streamer for Netflix and Pandora. If I could not stream I would throw it away. I will not buy anthing Samsung again. They have a crappy warranty. If I remember correctly it's 1 yr parts and 90 days labor. If you do plan on buying a Samsung pay for the extended warranty,I wish I did. I have an Oppo on the way, so far reviews look good. When I bought the Samsung crap it was also getting good reviews. At least the Oppo is more highend than the mass market Samsung.
New firmware can't play old disks either

I get the new firmware to play the latest bluray shipment with my daughter from netflix (sololist, 17 again) I realize I can't play the new movies we just received. after yelling at the kids for getting finger prints on them, I tired to play old movies that never touch. Those several old bluray movies, (quantom of solace, body of lies, road warrior) do not work either. I can still play disney blu ray movies, (walley, narnia) I downgrade back to what the player came with since I cannot find one version older, I can now play my old movies, but not the new ones.
Any attorneys out there that are not so busy that can handle a class action for us?
Quite frankly I have no patience for this.
In this new economy, I tried to save a $100.00 by not buying the sony player. Big mistake. I can tell you for sure I will never buy another samsung product as long as I live, and all the countless family and friends I have who call me and other friends of mine will not buy one either.

Also i got my player to work (kinda)
Every night i turn off the power strip that powers my entertainment system, so i power cycle things daily. After the power cycle i was able to play 300, 'Vicky Christina Barcelona', Dark Knight.
When i tried to play "King of New York: SE (Widescreen)" (netflix delivered) I again got this message. Also i was unable to play any BluRay again (all the listed above). So... I again power cycled the player and TaaDaa! i can again play those other movies.
I am thinking that there are some newer BD movies that just **** up the player... but the good news is unplugging and plugging back in fix's it for the other BD movies.
