It happens regularly to USB hubs defined to save energy. MS Windows XP fault again...
Some of my USB connections were not found until I moved my network drive to Z: - I think it was giving itself N: until I moved it to Z: - Anything after the network drive did not show up ...
Yikes, some of these solutions sound awfully harsh. Leave it to a bunch of engineers and programmers to come up with the most complicated solutions to a simple problem. Whenever I find that a USB drive is not showing up on my Explorer list (and it happens a lot) it is invariablely caused by it hiding out underneath an old Mapped Network Drive letter and name. To determine which it is, I would just go in thru ControlPanel -> ComputerManagement -> DiskManagement and look thru the list of Disk0 -> DiskN entries and find the one that matches what the drive capacity for that device. When found, right click and do a CHANGE DRIVE LETTER/PATHS and stick it on a unused letter. It would then show up properly in Explorer and with the correct name.
(Another shortcut would be to just click on each Drive letter you have and see if any come up with the file system and size you are looking for -- then you have found the 'hidden' drive. (But it'll still be named incorrectly with the old drive name).
Yours is the best solution I've come across, and I thank you for it. I get this problem from time to time, and it works like a charm on my systems.
I have fought with the similar problems with thumb drives. My company's I.S. department tried many things and nothing worked. Then one day the guy asks if I have any photo album software on my laptop. I had an Adobe photo album 3.2 or something like that. He asked me to try deleting the program,....problem solved! No more undetected thumb drives. Go figure.
just use Unlock Flash software
& secondly reinstall usb Driver by vista CD
Can anyone advise as to why my Dell 2208 monitor's USB ports will not power up/recognize my IPOD? (it's better than going to my tower's ports, which are hard to access)
