Remember it's well beyond its 5 year design life.

It's 3.5 inch, IDE so let's find some USB case that accepts this as well as SATA so you can upgrade it later.

Try http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=USB20-SATA-SIL&cat=CSE

I have one of these and I drilled the front plastic piece full of holes to let it run a tad cooler.

Sorry but I can't know if you want to format a drive. I ran into a fellow that did that and then asked where their files are now.

Hard Drive

You have taken a hard internal drive and made and external USB drive of it. Correct?

If there is information on that drive that you wish to preserve you cannot format it as you would loose the data. It can be used anyway without formatting. However, I would highly suggest you remove any data you wish to keep, format the drive, and then reinstall the data. You have been fortunate to be running that drive this long with win98.

Old Drive

As the drive is old enough to fail at any time, do you really want to use it to store pictures you cannot replace?

Back up hard drives

by burnselk - 9/18/09 11:15 PM In reply to: hard drive by dark ak

Hard drives are so cheap these days you can back up your precious data to more one location. Buy another hard drive (or two) and save your data to more than one backup hard drive. Two back up locations are much better than one because it's very unlikely both hard drives will go bad at the same time. Never rely solely on one backup hard drive.

2.5 is laptops, generally, 3.5 for desk tops.
