Windows XP: Auto Updates won't install

Auto Updates won't install

XP Pro with SP3 installed plus IE7.
(1) Cumulative update for internet explorer 7 for windows (KB972260), (2) Internet explorer 8 for windows XP,
(3) Microsoft .Net framework 3.5 service pack 1 and .net framework 3.5 family update for .net versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847)x86,
(4) update for windows xp (KB968389).

None of these updates will install, I have tried downloading and installing all together and one by one, but they will not install. That little yellow sheild is constantly running in my task bar and each time I tell it to skip Auto update I get a red sheild, what can I do?
