USB ports

by qrazydutch - 9/6/09 1:38 PM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

1. Some notebooks still have the first USB port version that came out. Some software can turn it in to the latest version, most dont. So if you have a USB device that runs with the USB 2 or latest version it might only work on one port due to the power it draws of the motherboard (I had the same thing happen to me)
2. Solution: Buy a Belkin (what I use) or other multi USB plug in that is powered separately by a small transformer of a separate plugin. (Note: although notebooks might have the USB ports, drawing too much power of the motherboard interferes with performanced. I have 6 various USB plugs running of this multiplug in without any noticeable drop in performance. If you need your notebook on the fly, decide which device you need "on the run" and power that one by a separate plugin.

USB Flash Drives

I have also on a number of times had this same issue. To fix this,I right click 'My Computer' (XP) and then click 'Manage'. On the tree select disk management, Check if the drive is displayed and (normally) if so change the 'drive letter'.

USB port troubleshooting

by soumyendu - 9/7/09 3:41 AM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have had the same problems in my laptops and desktops. The reason as far as I understand is that the USB ports - have a no of ports which are tending to the basic utilitities. At times a certain port may not be recognised. Check what other ports are free and connect the USB pen drive/ modem / printer and try again. In most cases it will work.

Tony M.. There are many reasons because USB connections are not detect by PC. as a personal experience the reason is, use and careful of that connections. Don`t connect with many frequently because This USB connections are fragile and then may not work properly and break down soon.

Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC,

by gupta gj - 9/9/09 6:09 PM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Hi CNET. I've noticed that some of my USB devices like flash
drive, printer, even digital camera plugged as mass storage
isn't readily detected by the USB ports on my laptop. At
times I still have to plug and unplug on different ports
before the computer finally detects the device. However, I
have this one particular flash drive that can only be
detected by my laptop on a particular port and does not work
on the other 2 ports. Why is this so? Any ideas on how I can
solve this mystery?

USB connections is not always being detect by PC

by bashar habal - 9/11/09 7:03 PM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The most important thing is not to follow any suggestion of formatting your hard drive, or reinstalling your operating system before you try something else. In some forums I even read that HP suggested to change the motherboard, but even with that it did not work.
I had this problem and nothing in any forum could help me fix it, until I got an advise from one expert to just turn off the computer and unplug it from the main electricity switch for few hours in order to clear all the electricity residue, then plug it, turn the computer on and plug the device in the USB again.
Well, it worked perfectly for me, and everything is working well now.
Give it try if you couldn't find other solutions, and good luck.

The USB Port is not always recognized

by RisdonH - 9/19/09 7:15 AM In reply to: USB connections is not always being detect by PC by bashar habal

I agree wth your comment -- it works. I have a three step "debug" when the prots are nt recognized. 1. Insure that USB plug is inserted snugnly. 2. Reboot machine 3. If that doesn]t work disconnect from electrical outlets for a short period then plug in and reboot. Theses almost always work. The exception was my previous laptop where theUSB controller on the mother board died.

bad flash drive possibly

by farcry1010 - 9/18/09 5:44 PM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

like someone else said maybe it can only run on a usb 2.0 port. or that the other ports are bad. i also had seen customers of mine buying cheap usb devices off of ebay. These are not worth buying very cheap and really dont work correctly. so if you own such a device this could be a cause. hope this helps alittle. well good luck with you problem i hope you solve it soon.

You should also check to make sure that your USB device is not trying to use an already asigned drive letter IE drive E that is being used by another device such as an external hard drive

USB PORTS NOT RECOGNIZED ON NOT AS HIGH SPEED

by JIM RAY, SR. - 9/18/09 10:12 PM In reply to: Help, USB connections is not always being detect by PC by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

We have two Durabook notebooks and one is 32 bit and the other 64 bit and XP Pro.

Every now and then I will plug in a USB item (on the 64 bit) and get a balloon saying this device can preform faster in a high speed port. Also the device manager didn't show any at all at other times. All three ports are high speed. Consulting with the factory they suggested going into the Bios and just go with the default settings. That has taken care of it most of the time. A couple of times I have had to go to the bios more than once to get them recognized.

I hope this helps someone.

Jim
