RegCure

by rondc8 - 3/8/09 12:26 PM In reply to: Why would I ever need such a thing? by R. Proffitt Moderator

BEWARE: When you buy RegCure it is only a one year license you are buying, you are NOT buying the program!!!! Also, the advertisement says a free download which it is, but that is all. When you download and run the program it will find errors but then you have to purchase a one year license to fix the problems. No where on their website do they say it is only a one year license!!!! I can see for a Virus program that you have to renew each year because a virus progran needs to be constantly updated but this is not. This company is not honest nor ethical!!!!

Same argument can be made for

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 3/8/09 12:29 PM In reply to: RegCure by rondc8

Windows, Office and many titles. You never buy the program. Just a license. These licenses have restrictions so to buy a program sounds very expensive.

It is NOT the same!!!

by rondc8 - 3/8/09 12:42 PM In reply to: Same argument can be made for by R. Proffitt Moderator

I have Windows on all my computers, I have Adobe, I have Office and I am NOT required to make a payment each year as you do with RegCure. Yes, if these companies come out with a new version of their program YOU have the choice of upgrading and paying for it but the version you are currently running does NOT expire each year. I know people still running Windows 98 and it works perfect and they do not pay a yearly fee. Also, if you go to the RegCure website NOWHERE do they tell you it is a one year license fee. When anyone buys Windows, Office, Adobe, Coral and just about any other program out there is is for the program and it is forever, NOT FOR A ONE YEAR LICENSE!!!!

You may have forgotten or are new to the PC world.

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 3/8/09 1:13 PM In reply to: It is NOT the same!!! by rondc8

Not long ago all software license were for a year. The era of "shrink wrap" software changed all that.

And you find software titles that have a variety of license agreements.
Keep reading and stick to the titles that have agreeable terms.

Please don't go into politics, you are not good at SPIN!!

No, I am not new to the PC world nor am I new to the English language. By your untrue statement about, "all software being a one year license," clearly shows you have no idea what you are talking about. When was the last time you had to send Microsoft, Adobe, Corel, a yearly fee? What RegCure is doing is called a SUBSCRIPTION but they don’t tell you that when you make the purchase. When I purchase a LICENSE such as Windows, Office, Adobe, Corel it is NOT TIME CONSTRAINED, a SUBSCRIPTION is time constrained. I recently purchased Adobe 9 Professional and Office 2007, Snagit 9.0 and Corel X4. NONE of these have a time constraint and in one year or 10 years from now I will not have to pay another dime unless I choose to upgrade to their latest version. I did recently pay my yearly SUBSCRIPTION fee to MacAfee and at least they are honest enough to tell you upfront that it is a SUBSCRIPTION and not a LICENSE. It is a shame I have to give you an English lesson but here you go and ethics.
The definition of a SUBSCRIPTION is: an arrangement for providing, receiving, or making use of something of a continuing or periodic nature on a prepayment plan: as a: a purchase by prepayment for a certain number of issues (as of a periodical).
The definition of a LICENSE is: a grant by the holder of a copyright or patent to another of any of the rights embodied in the copyright or patent short of an assignment of all rights.
The definition of UNETHICAL is: not adhering to ethical or moral principles; not conforming to approved standards of social or professional behavior.
When you don’t tell people upfront what they are paying for and how long then that is not ethical.

"When you don’t tell people upfront what they are paying for and how long then that is not ethical."

Hey, I agree but let's look at the topic under discussion.

Let me be blunt, most of these registry cleaners are preying on the old days when it really mattered and worked. Those days are long gone.

You need to browse license conditions with software

by Dick Humfrey Moderator - 9/6/09 12:48 AM In reply to: RegCure by rondc8

Look at all the different conditions on all the various registry programs. Choose the one that suits your needs.

You have to decide whether it meets your needs.....years ago I heard all the users on CNET raving about a Virus suite program and how excellent it was....so I changed and it was the only program I have ever asked for a refund on within 30 days - it was that bad....so try and make up your own mind before buying if it is shareware.

For instance with Registry First Aid you pay for a licence for the version number you are buying and that version and it's updates are free and it can be used for as many years as you have a compatible system to run it on. The first time you need to pay again is when the version goes up to the next whole number - currently it is at V7 and you not need to pay again until V8-as a previous registered user they offer a 40% discount on upgrades.

System Mechanic

by Laurazbiz - 3/13/09 10:42 PM In reply to: registry cleaners by mymargo

I have been using System Mechanic for years. Used it with WinME, WinXP, and now with Vista. It does a lot more than just clean your registry. The first year starts at 34.97, then you can renew each year after that for only 29.95. (this price is a limited time offer, for now. it will go back up.) What I like best is the license is good for 3 PC's. I have it on my PC, my husband's laptop, and will put it on my daughter's when she gets a laptop for her birthday this year. Iolo is a good company and I wouldn't hesitate to get any of their products.

Compare it with some others. See this page, and scroll to the bottom:

I have been using RegCure in my system to do the registry repair and disk management. I feel that it is a good system utility coz I'd been facing lots of problems before I got it.

Most of the old registry cleaners will be obsolete

by Richard N. Lewis - 9/28/09 4:09 AM In reply to: suggestion... by bozotheclown138

Most of the old registry cleaners will be obsolete when Windows 7 rolls around. This comes from people in the field who has tried the old software and trying some of the newer software on Windows 7 beta software. I used to use both Registry Fix and Ccleaner. But I found newer software that blows the stuff everyone has been using out of the water. The software is called RegAce. If you are anticipating upgrading to Windows 7, I would give RegAce a look.
