CPU Load High, Monitor is in "Sleep Mode"

by jCounsel - 9/5/09 5:04 PM

I have Windows Vista (64bit) on an HP with an AMD Opteron CPU.

I have instances when the computer goes into sleep mode and it will not "wake" upon movement of the mouse or upon pressing a key on the keyboard.

The CPU appears to be high at those points (as shown on the G15 keyboard), and I am wondering if there is a possibility that it is a virus or other malware.

I can't seem to get into the OS at that point to see what is listed on the active threads/applications.

Any recommendations?

Be sure to report such failures to HP.

An Opteron could be an expensive machine. You wouldn't want to discover a bum board (nod to the dv6000, dv9000 recalls) out of warranty.
