www.mpepla.com demands a royalty from authors. For the most part you have to stay our of certain countries to develop a MPEG solution like that. See where VLC PLAYER comes from for an example.

that's not going to work, since it's not fair to charger our members to have to pay for video uploads.

I think you missed the issue.

You don't have to charge anything. Just have to navigate the waters of patents and laws of the land. I shared this issue since it's not nice what I've seen happen to those that didn't know.

Moving goalposts?

While http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=OPEN+SOURCE+VIDEO+PLAYER+BROWSER+PLUGIN&btnG=Google+Search confirms my suspicion about VLC PLAYER the problem is that getting people to install said player is a problem. You can find hundreds (thousands?) of posts about video in browser playback issues.

If you are not a programmer (you eat Java for breakfast) then you should look to solutions that everyone uses and not open source.

Embedding WMP in the browser is documented widely so I will not write anything about that. In fact I may not write anything that you could find with google. I will however share what you won't find.

FLV Player

by PROXUS - 9/3/09 4:59 PM In reply to: need web video player help by deadly55

check:

http://flvplayer.com/free-flv-player/

there are 2 versions , one free, very easy to setup,
and one commercial with load of features.

this is main link to commercial version:
http://flvplayer.com

you can play FLV, MP4, MOV, F4V ...I believe MP4 has the best compression / quality ratio, but you can try few different ways.
