I am planning a 10-day trek where I will have no access to electrical outlets to recharge my computer. I would like to keep a diary on a portable computer that could be recharged with traditional AA batteries or something similar. Are there any portable computers out there that would be suitable for a trip like this?
Thank you.
It sounds like you are a good candidate for a netbook with a solid state drive or flashdrive. Netbooks are very light, have great battery life and their flash drives are durable and consume less power than traditional mechanical hard disk drives. If you limited your authoring to 30-45 minutes per day you might be able to stretch a single netbook charge over the entire trip. Agree with Proffitt though, pen and paper make a great back up!
Good luck and please let me know what you decide to do

Check your options.
Apples new MacBooks offer better battery life than the old ones. They may work for you.
You can get a X300 and add in a second battery where the DVD bay would be to get some outstanding battery life.
C:net does have a review of long battery life computers. 8 hours is out there to be had now.
