outlook 7 does weird things

I have outlook 7 installed with office xp. I hated word 7, and my internet provider wouldn't accept outlook xp, so I mixed the versions.

Deleted things disappear all the time. You would think they are in the "deleted items" folder, but they are totally gone. Sometimes deleted items will go to the "junk email" folder instead. I don't see any pattern.

There's no rhyme or reason how it does spam. I'm on a lot of mailing lists (particularly rootsweb.com lists). Sometimes, it will put an item in spam and the next time an item from the same source will go to the inbox.

Yesterday, I posted to a list. I received a copy of the post. I deleted the item. I decided I would check it for something and it's totally gone. It happened a few days ago to a message from another poster. I deleted the item, had another thought and tried to retrieve it, but it was gone.

However, I can go to the "deleted items" or "junk email" folders and most of the old stuff will still be there.

I don't think it can be my provider. Once I download the mail, it is resident on my computer. I can still retrieve it from webmail for a day or two, but generally, it disappears after I download it.

Any ideas of what's wrong?
