Installing-Windows7-related question

by online71074 - 8/21/09 11:15 PM

I got an approval for a free copy of a Windows 7 upgrade from HP, and I'm interested in installing it on my laptop instead of my new PC. But my new PC has the 64-bit version of Vista Home Premium, my laptop has the 32-bit version.

Will they send me the 64-bit version or the 32-bit version? If they send me the 64-bit version, will I be able to install it on my laptop?

Any help greatly appreciated, thank you!

I'm going with "No."

Your license is for an upgrade to that new machine. I see that some don't want to abide by these pesky licenses so the answer is simply "No." If you want to try it anyway go right ahead but please try to avoid asking how to get around the license since this forum is squeaky clean about that. Posts about getting around license issues are routinely locked down.

If the laptop isn't HP

it might not even install anyways besides not being licensed for that machine.

If HP is going to provide the upgrade you will most likely get the exact same thing that is installed on your pc when you bought it. If it was 32, thats what you will get. You cannot upgrade from 32 to 64 you have to do a clean install.

If its retail, the Ultimate version should contain the 64bit version and 32 bit version.

Your key will work with 32 or 64

I just installed my teachers edition of Win7 and I tried the 64 bit first and it didnt impress me. So I formatted and installed the 32 bit version using the same key. So it should work for the 32 bit i would guess.
