Kind of ironic that the day before, BOL mentioned on the show in relation to the Wikipedia experiment on living people in Germany, that Edward Kennedy wasn't dead and this morining he is....?
again...it's IRONY.
AGAIN....BOL mentioned that Teddy Kennedy was alive on their show and then today...he is gone.
Not taking ANYTHING away from Kennedy but the timing was surreal.
Do you understand now???
oh, I understand the irony. It's a humor timing issue - you mention in your subject line "LOL" and I don't see how, regardless of political affiliation, one of the longest running and skilled senators dieing of cancer is "LOL"-worthy, ya know?
Based on your previous response, I understand you weren't trying to make a joke. However, frankly, I didn't see much respect for the situation either, which was at the core of my initial response.
Best,
Shalin
AGAIN...and I really DO hate repeating myself...no slight whatsoever to Sen. Kennedy was intended AT ALL, BUT SINCE you cannot see nor hear the nuances of what I said, that is the BEST I could do under the circumstances to keep people from being more angry and upset that someone 'accused' BOL of 'killing' Sen. Kennedy.
Obviously this approach didn't work either even after explaining it twice.
yes, it's a sad event but please do NOT be so sensitive over what was posted, merely look at the coincidence of BOL's recording, the actual event and the proximity of both.
~DONE!
apology on the miscommunication...
Indeed it is ironic, sad, but ironic for sure. I apologize for a reaction that was stronger than necessary.
Givin' credit where it's due - that was quick and clever of you to pick up on the ironic situation... I guess I just wish it was under more joyus circumstances, ya know?
Best,
Shalin
I'm with Shalin though. I don't know if irony is the right word, and putting LOL in the title is kinda inapropriate (even though you probably didn't mean to offend anybody).
But yes, I also noted it. It's such a weird coincidence (as I called it on Twitter http://twitter.com/spiri/status/3553235062)
Not funny. I wonder if Wikipedia will let them change his page to the fact that he died or will they try to change it back.
The coincident was interesting, but the comment was in poor taste. Apologizing would be the appropriate response at this point.
If you go back thru and read the prior posts and perhaps you will see that you are also in error about this being intended on being 'funny'.
Shalin even took the high road and apologized as if it wasn't OK for him to have an honest opinion and reaction...
And all you've done is respond very defensively and more than a little condescending and patronizing. Talking to people like they're 5 years old.
I think we all understand now what you are saying you meant. But we all also know what LOL means so how about you just say something like: "Gosh, I guess I COULD have worded it better" as, so far, every reply--every single one--which has given an opinion has said they found the remark, as phrased, uncomfortable.
All of you have to stop apologizing and eulogizing people endlessly just because their dead.
Kennedy killed a woman or call it what you want but Mary Jo Kopechne died 40 years ago because of Kennedy. That cowardly act (no matter what timeline you believe in, he did flee the scene didnt report the accident and the girl trapped in the car) should be the one on his tombstone.
You may not agree with it but I shouldnt have to apologize for having that opinion on Chappaquiddick.
That goes double for Michael Jackson, the seriously deranged ex-singer.
You might remember his hits from the 70 and 80s but to most, he was a creepy man with too much love of little boys. (Im not even basing this on the trials but on his family who would defend him by saying thigns like "He is still a kid at heart and he's just a man who likes to have slumber parties in his bed with kids." and things like that didnt help.
You might think that certain accomplishments outway the negatives and choose to close your eyes on them or you might not.
But neither positions are wrong and you shouldnt apologize because you dont have the same adoration of someone.
Certain things cant and shouldnt be washed away.
Its called an opinion and its ok to have one.
Even if others dont agree with it.
No one here eulogized much less expressed adoration, no one even gave an opinion about Kennedy's worth or not, or any sort of re-writing of history to ignore past sins, or dismssing or deriding anyone's personal opinion(s). Feels like someone hit your Kennedy button and you spewed, sliding on into Michael Jackson. Did you run out of space before you got to OJ?
I actually agree with some of what you said but it wasn't relevant to this thread about good or bad taste. I mean WOW, you just DUMPED!
Is if the title was "OMG...BOL killed Kenny!"
