I've never found any of Molly's quirks annoying, even the mock 'Apple hate' act (c'mon Molly we all know you've got a thing going on). There is one host that has me turning off/skipping an ep (Nat) but again that's a little bit of me as well as her. I'll take Molly's Awesome and singing of words anyday.
Anyhow, Molly's ace. Her and Tom are the spine of the show and he is the best equipped to deal with a rant when they seismically appear. Twas a shame when the day by day magic had to close and the co-hosts have all stepped up brilliantly. But Molly and Tom are one of the best teams on the pods imo.
My biggest gripe is that everything is 'awesome' she uses it as punctuation & sounds like a 16 year old valley girl. They are all pretty guilty of this & also 'just saying' AAARgh!!
My post under title 'Silly Phrases' was attributed to Blue Lancer somehow. Not my name, my screen name is den4ever
Habitual phrase hang-ups (my biggest peeve) happens with everyone. Many pros have scripted shows and don't present the problem, but improvisational discussions bring out these annoyances at times.
In the old days of Broadcasting they would do "airchecks" to catch these and break their habits. But in todays media there is rarely time for this type of constructive review. Even the best have these problems, they all have their verbal quirks.
Molly has always sounded like the odler Valley Girl, but again, annoyance aside, she is a great contribution when she sticks to a general discussion.
To be honest, I'm more annoyed by the show's need for her to just jump into a rant. Most of the rants lately seemed to be forced and maybe just a bit over the top and you can spot 'em a mile away. They could use a little focus and get back to just discussing the topics and let the rants happen naturally.
As critical as I get (which is a quirk of my own), all in all I gotta remember, it is just a podcast. And with that, it is STILL better content than you can find on most radio. Overall they do a fantastic job, quirks and all. The forums could go on endlessly, finding flaws. Compare this show with the extremely long winded Leo Laporte and his love for his own voice and never ending ads (the dude can make 15 minute show into an hour). Or the monotonous ameture edited delivery of SDR Review (always an unintentional take left in the show). The way Cali Lewis never takes a breath in Geek Brief. The way Patrick Norton cannot stop using the annoying word "Internets" in Tekzilla. The retarded girl in Hak5 cannot form a sentence. ...etc
On the positive side, it seems Tong has gotten a little better. Again, still a good show.
At first I was a bit un-Molly. Mostly because she knows jack about tech, unlike Tom and to a certain extent, Veronica. That was faulty reasoning on my part. I had the idea that the BOL hosts were tech people, but they are journalists first, tech people second. After that, Molly did not bother me as much. Then came Natali... After a few months of Natali I couldn't listen anymore. Only after it was announced that Molly was coming back in any capacity, I re-upped my subscription. I like the other hosts, with Cooley being my favorite. Tom, Jason, Rafe, and even Tong are alright with me...
