(In my best Molly Wood nerdy voice)
Remmy was too vague!
Instead of telling you what you should NOT be talking about, he should have told you what you SHOULD be talking about:
The Amiga.
In it's debut in 1985, it was years of ahead of the competition. It had PRE-EMPTIVE multitasking (software didn't have to be rewrote to allow for multitasking), dedicated VIDEO ram and it emphasized EXTERNAL peripherals. It took Mac about half a decade and Windows a decade to catch up to the Amiga! Only Amiga! With the mind of a musician--and no, I have no frelling idea what that means. Mind of a artist makes sense but a musician?!!? Argh, Amiga couldn't overcome CBM's mismarketing of it.
(End nerdy voice)
But seriously ...
I think a reasonable compromise is you each picked and under-reported story, your "Underdog of the Week". You could all report on them on one day or spread em out during the week. That way in addition to reporting, and more importantly, your unique editorializing, of the widely reported news, you show some love to the underdogs.
