Hell no. 6 months ago I spent 300 canadian and 160 for Office home and student. Then this comes out.Its not my fault that windows messed up with vista and now they want us to pay again for new os software. There should be a law against this. They finaly get all the drivers out for vista and now this. The only reason I switched from XP was for the gaming which dont work with XP.(directx 10 ). A lot of my friends feel the same way. Great chance for MAC to expand there horizens or maybe the new google os will compete. Maybe Linux too. Microsoft smarten up. We aint rich like you
Since new machines will all be coming out Windows 7, I want to get my installed base all on the same level ASAP.
Let's give Microsoft their due. - We've all lived through the hysteria around every release of Windows since 95. With the exception of M.E., there has never been a Microsoft problem that wasn't promptly fixed. A way better record than most other software releases. We can't blame MS if third parties aren't ready.
With Win 7 being an evolution of Vista, I don't see any reason to expect differently. Once I've commissioned my first batch of Win 7 machines and any issues are resolved, I'll start converting the rest.
When I got a new computer this spring, I intentionally bought one running Windows XP Pro, since my dedicated slide scanner and printer, but various software programs, are not supported by Vista. I expect the same issue with Windows 7. And I'm quite happy with XP.
I've been running both Win7 32bit & 64Bit. Recently focused on the 64bit, all my printers, a Canon inkjet, Epson wide format and an old HP Laserjet work perfectly. My scanner an Epson, about 6 years old, found drivers. Even my Wacom drawing tablet. The best thing my older Hauppauge Tuner / DVR (MCE 250) found drivers as well.
So finally with this 64bit version I will make the leap. Being able to try it out before release was terrific.
I pre-ordered, can't wait.
The improvements to Windows Media Center alone are worth it.
And yes that's what I normally do. I only use Windows for school, the rest is done using something else at home.
Maybe if I were unplugged more often I would feel the improved battery life would be worth it. Vista does everything I need well enough. If I were considering a new computer at this time I would want 7.
I have already ordered the upgrade at 1/2 price. I have vista premium 64 bit now, am happy with that. I understand windows 7 will be better.
Because I am using 7 RC and am very happy with it.
I won't be upgrading. According to the program that checks if your computer can handle the upgrade my computer has a whole pile of compatability issues with Vista so I am still using XP. Windows 7 would need a whole new computer and I haven't the money for that.
Ive been using the Beta for a few months now and LOVE it compared to Vista. SOOOOO much better. I too have already pre-ordered it.
I saw the $30 for college students deal, and I figured with this price it would probably be the only time I would think about upgrading from Vista. If it was full price I wouldn't bother, although I hear lots of positive reviews from the RC.
I got mine through School MSDNAA account. This is one of the greatest OS I've used. I am reviewing the full Windows 7 Professional Edition, this is not a beta or release candidate. Windows 7 (W7) has improved my battery by more than 45 minutes. With vista it usually took a while to turn on but with Windows 7 it's even faster than vista coming on through hibernation it evens turns off faster and restarts faster. Itunes used to be my main media player, now it's Windows Media Player mostly because of the taskbar integration. Haven't had any problems with programs and drivers. Also less annoying pop ups. I will recommend anyone that does not like vista to get Windows 7.
Windows 7 release in a little over a week, let's see what the response is now.
After experience with Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP, and Vista I think I'll let the folks who just have to have the latest of everything find the bugs (yeah I know there are no bugs in 7. yeah right). Maybe I'll upgrade in January.
