What drivers did you use?

by Kees Bakker Moderator - 8/19/09 1:43 AM In reply to: No sound device after installing Win7 on DELL inspiron 1420 by Vusak

- the original Windows XP drivers from Dell from the original driver CD
- downloaded Windows Vista drivers from Dell for this laptop
- downloaded Windows 7 drivers from Dell for this laptop
- Windows Vista drivers from the makers from the components (that you determined with Everest or Belarc)
- Windows 7 drivers from the makers from the components (that you determined with Everest or Belarc)
- other

We don't know, because you didn't tell. Just "the sound device" doesn't say much, if anything.

And:
- What version of Windows 7 did you install? The release candidate from February, downloaded from the Microsoft site? Or some cracked version from a P2P network? There's no retail version in the shops yet, is there?

Same Problem

by Mysteir - 11/12/09 4:55 AM In reply to: No sound device after installing Win7 on DELL inspiron 1420 by Vusak

Has anyone figured this out yet? I've installed windows 7 and have the same problem - no sound.

Dell don't seem to have any audio drivers available for windows 7 and when I try to download the sigmatel audio driver for vista, I get an "unknown error" when installing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I can't try this for you.

Reading over http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=mozilla&q=%2B"WINDOWS+7"+SIGMATEL+STAC+92XX+C-Major+HD+Audio&aq=f&oq=&aqi= I see many pleas for this. Try that and failing that consider some USB sound solution.

My sound drivers came from Microsoft

I realize my old homebuilt will not be like your Dell, I had integrated Realtech AC'97 sound card. When I first installed I had no sound, but after I got Anti-Virus installed and got online, Windiws updates identified my hardware and downloaded sound drivers, next time I restarted I had sound. Afraid this won't help you ,but that's what worked for me.

Check your drivers

Check and upgrade your drivers either with the manufacturer or Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx.
