Smartphone with Handwriting Recognition?

by TonnelierDeux - 2/1/07 9:27 AM

For a long time now, I've wanted to combine my Palm LifeDrive with a cell phone. I loathe those microscopic QWERTY thumbboards that all the Treos have. It seems like stepping backwards to me. Since my handwriting recognition is fairly good and I'm not a text-messager, I don't have much need for a keyboard anyway. I would like to stay with the Palm OS and Cingular/AT&T, but I'll change either or both to get what I want... if it exists. I actually found the perfect phone by Qool, but it was unavailable in North America. Does anyone know of a smartphone either without a keyboard or at least capable of handwriting recognition that is available in the U.S.? They may be out there, but all the carrier stores seem to have dummy phones and employees who can't fathom not wanting to text. Thanks.

Handwriting recognition

I know this reply is two years after your post, but I was wondering if you'd had any luck. I'm searching for the same thing myself, and as a result have refused to relinquish my Handspring Visor with VisorPhone attachment. I JUST found information on a handwriting recognition app that works on Palm (e.g., it would work on the Palm Centro, still available, as well as older Treos which are easily found from re-sellers and on eBay). Up to this point, I had only found programs for Windows CE (yuck). If you want to stick with Palm, this may be an option, although the keyboard does cut down screen size on the newer Treos. The program is MobileWrite by Inkmark Software LLC.
