How to read settings from a BIOS ROM file?

by gpwr - 8/16/09 11:04 AM

Hi. I just installed a new BIOS for my ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. I was silly to assume that the new bios somehow will take some of my old settings. It did not. Now I have "cpu fan error" and my processor is not overclocked anymore. I was lucky to save the old BIOS in a ROM file. Instead of reverting back to the old BIOS using a painful DOS way, I would like to see what settings were in the old BIOS and apply them in the new one. Is there a way to look at these settings in the saved ROM file?

It's a binary and not readable as text

You'll have to re-flash your BIOS and hope the backup is good and saved your custom settings. I have seen BIOS capture utilities that can print the settings but cannot link you to one of these.
