The subject sounds really newbie since I know you can either hover over a folder in Explorer or right click, click properties and get the folder size - but what I want is a fix or utility that allows me to see multiple folders, ala Explorer, and see their size displayed - the way it does for individual files on the DETAILS setting.
I downloaded Explorer Plus but have not seen a way to make it do this.
Please advise and thank you in advance.
You could select multiple folders, in the right pane of a 2-pane Explorer window, or else in a single pane Explorer window.
Then right-click over any or those selected folders and select "Properties"
(I have another way - but I'll explain in another message, after a meeting I have to go to right now. Sorry for the delay.)
OK, I've found some free tools that may do what you want (all these can be found listed at NoNags, but you go to the individual websites, of the software, to get the actual tool (unless you are a member of NoNagsPlus, as I am). The write-ups here are from the author.:
ExplorerXP: a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non - commercial use) file manager for Windows 2000/XP. Unlike the regular Windows Explorer, it displays the total size of each folder and allows you to browse multiple folders from a tabbed interface.
freeCommander: an easy-to-use alternative to the standard windows file manager. Among the many things it can do, is the calculation of folder size.
Commander: is a file management utility and image viewer. The program has an effective split screen interface with two directory views or a directory view and a file viewer.
ByteCount: a utility that shows a list of how many files and bytes there are in each subdirectory. You can hook this tool to your right mouse button menu, when browsing in explorer. It also can sort directories by size or number of files.
Thanks for the great answer. I think this will sort out my problem.
Here's how you may enable displaying folders size without installation of any additional software:

" First you need to download this file: "
That's in the FIRST STEP. Why did you claim "without installation of any additional software"?
Here is a utility that looks just like the MS Explorer but shows:
The size of a folder (including subfolders) and
The size of a folder (not including subfolders)
