needing help buy a AV Reciever

by dante_112 - 8/10/09 4:43 AM

Hi there,

I recently just bought a Samsung BD-P 3600 an I'm loving it awesome sound awesome picture quality. And I have been running the sound through fiber optic cable to a Yamaha HTR 6130 which is great but i would like to upgrade. Another reason being is that i have a Xbox 360 and would like to be able to plug all my components into the AV receiver and save cable space.

My question is what is the best AV receiver that accepts DTS-MA and DTS-HD and upscale picture so that i can plug my Xbox, blu ray player. I have looked at the Sony STR-DH800 & Onkyo TX-SR607 and don't know whats a better choice, for price at the moment its bout 600 but if i wait a bit ill happily pay 700-750. Would love all feedback.

Thanks for your time

Just did a bunch of research myself

and went with Onkyo. They seem to give the best bang for your buck. I got the 706 (100 watts per channel) for 618 dollars from amazon, no tax and free shipping (I have amazon prime so I got it in a day). It has 4 HDMI ins so I have some of room to grow. The automatic Audyssey speaker setup was quite nice too.

Just a word of caution. There is something wonky with the Xbox's HDMI port. Sometimes it downgrades to stereo even though Dolby Digital 5.1 is available and you have to play with the audio settings in the dashboard to get it to reset (and it doesn't always take the first time). This is a documented issue if you look around on discussion boards. Its a bit frustrating but apparently you can get around it if you use an optical connection for the audio.

looks like your voice is being heard. Less than 5" tall, and less than 15" deep.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll look into both of those. In response to the comment about the Xbox 360 sound yes im also putting the sound through a fiber optic cable.

The replacements for the 806 and 706 just came out

so you probably can get a good deal on the retired units right now.

I don't see anything in the specs of the new ones that looks all that compelling. Unless you just gotta have that new Dolby z axis thing (which I believe is only in the more expensive replacement for the 806).

I was thinking what if I was to take out wanting an AV receiver with up conversion then what would be the better option, only reason is that I fell that it's not as important then i originally thought

Pioneer VSX1019AH-K

by dano_48 - 8/11/09 9:29 AM In reply to: needing help buy a AV Reciever by dante_112

I ordered this unit based on everything I've read about it. However, it appears that Pioneer is like a month behind on getting these out to their authorized distributors. I'm still waiting for the one I ordered on June 21st.

Pioneer VSX1019AH-K reply

that's strange because there are two shops being JB Hi FI and WOW sight and sound around my area that are selling the PVSX1019AH-K as well the older models so i don't understand why they would be having problems with dispatch
