NO!!! I am using WINDOWS 8! Why should I go back to an older versiom even if is revamped!
My xp-2 is running fine fast and furiously-I am most pleased why the chance, on ruining a sure good thing, now eh? what advantages does it offer me.
Am eagerly awaiting the release of Snow Leopard.
I like my Vista and see no reason to change until 2012. I changeout my system on the five-year plan. In 1997 I bought a current machine with W95; in 2002 I bought a current machine with XP; in 2007 I bought a current machine with Vista. So I plan to buy a new machine then with whatever is the current operating system; possibly son-of-W7. I also change out my user software at that time; used MS Works until 2002; switched to Office 2002; and to Office 2007 in 2007. I like to keep my computer, OS, and user software compatible and attuned to each other.
I despise windows... sorry, I do. I use it, because of the applications that use it, and I am not enough of a geek to go entirely UBUNTU... I have partitioned, and I use it to do my writing, but I haven't figured out the mail settings, so, anything that does mail, I do from Windows side.
As I work, every time I start up, and at random intervals, a "blank page" comes up. When my computer was new, I could close it with a right-click. Now, as my computer has aged, I must open the Task Manager-- breaking up what ever it is I'm doing. Microsoft may not consider my time of value, but it is all I have, so I resent the disruption in my train of thought, and the hoops through which I must jump to resume my original task. Sound familiar??? I intend, using open office, to wean myself from Windows. I might not get all the latest bells and whistles, but frankly, I don't use 'em all that often.
Well I tried the Win7 RC and I liked it and ordered the half price pre sale version but then realized it was a downgrade from the Vista Ultimate I have now. So I cancelled the pre-order.
Microsoft got almost $300 for me to buy Vista Ultimate and didn't give me any break on Win7 Ultimate at all! Only to premium and professional versions of win7, ultimate remained at full price.
So for me, it is all about pricing and principle. No! I will stay with Vista64 Ultimate, why should I upgrade?
I didn't even use Vista a year and they want another $249? Crazy!!
I have XP Home SP2 and it works just fine. All of you will groan but I kept Windows ME for a long time and knew how to operate it with great success. I skipped Windows 2000 and when I switched to XP, it was a thought out process and I waited until most of the bugs were worked out.
I'm happy with XP. It has never crashed on me and I haven't seen the BSOD since ME. It runs fine for what I do at home. I'm not a techie, don't do anything fantastic but email, photos, web surfing and other home stuff. XP works flawlessly. I have enough hard drive space and RAM.
I skipped Vista and am glad I did. From what I read, it's junk and 7 doesn't appear to upgrade on that at all from what I read on one poster's comments. I will skip 7 and sit tight on my XP until something out of this world comes up.
I have been using the windows 7 RC in both 32 and 64bit and love it. In my opinion it`s the best release from Microsoft ever.(don`t knock the operating, Knock the price, they could charge £10 and still make huge profits.

Windows 7 (aka vista) is for fanbois
There are some people out there who view a computer as a "toy", and for these people, owning the "latest and greatest" is mandatory. If you are in this category, then you are most likely already using Vista, and anxiously awaiting the "opportunity" to upgrade to Windows 7.
For the rest of us--the majority of computer users--a computer is a tool, not a toy. It is a machine that is used to perform various tasks, and as long as it performs those tasks quickly and reliably, there is no reason to "upgrade" to a newer model or different operating system.
This is the reason why Microsoft has had to force Windows Vista on a largely uninterested public. People buy a computer to perform productivity and entertainment tasks, and unfortunately (for Microsoft) there is nothing that most people want to do with a computer that Windows XP can't do just fine. In fact, most people are happier with an older computer running XP than a new computer running Vista.
At home, and at work, I use Windows XP exclusively. It is fast and efficient, and allows me to do everything I need to do, quickly and easily. It is for this very reason that I plan to avoid Windows 7 and stick with Windows XP for as long as new software and peripherals support it, and MS provides new security "fixes" for it.
Although I love XP and hate vista, I realize its time to take the next step. Windows 7 although not as nice as the xp pro 32bit, it comes with the option to install 32 or 64 bit O/S.
I recently built a new pc for gaming and decided that I wanted to go with a 64bit system to utilize more than the ~4Gig RAM since I got a great deal on a 12gig set of RAM. Although I probably wont see maxing out my RAM anytime in the near future, it's always nice to have the breathing room. Even at half price for the pre-order, the O/S microsoft produces is still a bit expensive, I am impressed by the load from boot of about 60 seconds. The crisp display and color definition appears to be a nice step up.
Windows update change from the xp internet explorer version is a much needed improvement as the old website often had issues taking as long as 5 minutes to load controllers, programs, and then scanning for updates. The RC version still has bugs dealing with microsoft office, requiring office updates, I use 2003, to be downloaded from their website. I'm really interested in the progression of gaming and how Dx10 will start to become more prominent since XP, the last Dx9 platform, will be retired in the near future.
Big Con to Windows 7 and they really need this fixed. Uninstalling programs tends to leave traces of the old programs, especially in the registry, empty folders and stray files. They should take some cue from Revo and get this annoying issue fixed. I still haven't been able to remove some notification icons even after the the programs have been uninstalled.
There are a number of oddities especially in the control panel, where finding what you need to adjust is elusive. Not all issues seem to be caught by troubleshooting.
IE8 is still really buggy with the RC version, don't know if the issues exist in the full version, but annoying enough that I really would rather not have it installed right now if some programs would allow me to use firefox instead.
I know there are microsoft detractors, that will praise Linux since there is a free version available, and their points are valid, Windows 7 is what Vista should have been to begin with, a viable upgrade to the XP platform. Vista was the Edsel of Operating Systems. Windows 7 addresses alot of the issues that villified Vista, although it didn't take care of all the issues. Upgrading is a matter of preference, XP lovers will probably run it until it's death and I can't blame them. However, if you currently have vista, personally I'd jump ship and swim over to the Windows 7 boat ASAP, you'll be better off.
the time I could spend upgrading, I'll spend learning to get my mail working on ubuntu.
I've got a blank page that keeps popping up, trashing my train of thought... when I'm writing It is really annnnnnooying.
I will upgrade to windows 7 because I loved vista and everyone says that vista has so many bugs and that windows 7 is so much better. I couldn't go wrong.....could I? As much as I dislike the windows world dominance, I have to use it until Google is able to make its own OS to match all the great other programs and utilities that they have in their arsenal. So until then I am stuck with Windows for it is the only OS out there as of right now that I like.
As much as I like Gmail and Chrome, I would NEVER use use an OS or Software that resides on the Internet. In particular Google which is notorious monitoring your every move, as well as if there is an Internet outage you cannot use your applications.
Currently I use Vista, (which has worked great) Win7 (which is considerably faster and more polish), Ubuntu (which is good but not quite there). I used my friends Mac (don't like the OS or iPhoto) but also I like to build my own PC.
Win7 already ordered.
