i turned off UAC.do we really need this turned on, if so for what? any
comments on this would be great......thanks
I write applications so for now I leave it on and suffer with it's errors so I can see what I can reduce my applications firing it off. That's so my few users can live with it on. That's my small view of it.
However you will find that it can interfere with Office 2003 installs so you turn it off, install, turn it back on.

I'm new to Vista, so I am using it as added security while I get used to it.
Hopefully that will help prevent rogue applications installing without my expressed knowledge and approval.

I left it on when I went to Vista over 2 yrs ago with the intention of turning it off, I never did!
I do not find it annoying and I like the fact that things should not run/install without my knowledge or permission.
I found that with it turned off nothing ran or installed without me knowing about it anyway, it just gets really annoying when you have it asking if you really want to do something every time you do anything.
Hi!
In answer to your question, no you do not need to have UAC switched on,the only time I would turn it on would be if there was another person using the computer ,just to be on the safe side.Otherwise it is just an annoying nuisance every time it asks you if you "really want to do that?"
Ours is a personal PC we have little of a security concern on it, so we leave it off. We do however have very good security software on it and feel well protected. The firewall being the most likely source of workarounds for possible UAC problems. We have two.

In short, UAC blocks system wide changes not a big problem for a two, some times three person PC or that's the way I see it.
But you never know so, if in doubt, do use UAC. If you have kids around that might tinker with it, do use UAC. If you use credit cards on your PC do everything you can to protect those credit card and bank account numbers numbers from theft.
Now you must decide. If you decide to not use the UAC you do so at your own personal risk.
