TV is fixed

by msbaldi - 7/8/09 8:00 AM In reply to: sound but no picture update by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

To update my previous post... I got my television back from the repair shop and it is now working fine (although there is now a small scratch on the frame-probably while it was being repaired). I spoke with the customer service rep at the repair shop and I was told that they contacted Samsung directly and were told to re-solder the mainboard and another board and also rebuilt the power supply (replaced some capacitors). Total cost was $329.95. I looked on the web and found other users that had to replace some capacitors as well. Those users just need a de-soldering tool to take out the old capacitors and then solder some new capacitors that they purchased cheaply from Radio Shack. I don't know if this would have solved my problem or not, but $329.95 is too much to spend on "repairing" a 2-year old television. I plan on writing a letter to Samsung with a copy of my receipts as this is just not acceptable. However, I have learned a valuable lesson and will from now on purchase the extended warranty just to put my mind at ease... I would love to just sell the tv and buy a new one (not a Samsung) and start over, but not sure if I will.

Nothing new

by jimmyo s - 7/2/09 9:42 PM In reply to: sound but no picture update by msbaldi

OK... I have the same TV and the same problem. My LCD was purchased two years ago and I suspect also the same lot numbers as the units having problems. Mine was purchased from Best Buy in San Diego. Just wondering if this was a serial number run that used bad componets??? I can purchase a 52" Samsung that is 10 times better for 60% less than what I paid for this one and see no reason to throw good money after bad. I did think this had the best pic of 6 LCD's that I have but I have never replace a TV after two years becasue it broke!!! That is just wrong and a rip off. Can't see buying another Samsung ever if they don't come to the table.

Hi Guys, Did you find any solution to this problem? Any recommended fix? I have heard about changing some capacitors or a printed board!?

Your help would be very much appreciated! It is just too frustrating to waste a 2years old TV!

Same problem with LN-T4661FX

by smerani - 8/2/09 10:53 AM In reply to: Black Screen... by justin3344

The problem just started happening this morning. Would hope to get more guidance from Samsung about coming to a solution without breaking the bank or having to pay for a problem that seems to be common amongst their TVs. I have loved this TV from the moment I purchased it and would hope that Samsung customer service can help so I can stand by the brand in the future...

Follow-up

by basselam - 8/2/09 10:44 PM In reply to: Same problem with LN-T4661FX by smerani

If anybody finds the cause of the problem please share it at the forum so others could consider making the repair themselves (if TV is not under warranty anymore). I will be calling Samsung authorized repair facility, and will let you know....

Black Screen...

justin3344,

If you're in the U.S., you do qualify for an additional 3 months if you register your unit online. Try registering, and then calling 800-SAMSUNG and explaining that you registered online. It may or may not work, but it's worth a shot if it does.

Black Screen

by jimmyo s - 8/4/09 8:15 PM In reply to: Black Screen... by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

I had the same problem and for some reason it has disappeared. I have no idea why but I did read in this thread that humidy might play a part. I have been running the AC the last month after an unusal bout of humidity in San Diego and guess what... TV works. I have a feeling if you bring the matter directlty to Samsung and force the issue they will do somthing. There are just too many with the same problem and short of doing a recall take care of this on a case by case basis.

Good Luck

Is this condidered as help?

by basselam - 8/6/09 8:14 AM In reply to: Black Screen... by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

Hi there,

All the help we are getting with you is asking us to register and call Samsung? What would happen to the other users who are not under warranty anymore? It's a shame!!! You obviously have a problem with your products and you are hiding it! Look on the internet and this is happening with more than one user...... I turn the TV on twice once a week for two hours, and I am having the same problems as the other users on this thread.

Can you please tell us which part we need to change in the TV in order to fix it?

Problems are expected it's the way you deal with them which counts! And until now you guys are not doing a good job at all!!!

Thanks!

basselam,

It's a world-wide forum. Any problem that can happen could happen with more than one user, not to mention the same symptom may have a different cause - therefore, one diagnosis "does not fit all".

The problems are addressed on a case-by-case basis.

You are free to reject my suggestions and find a better answer elsewhere if you feel that it doesn't meet your needs.

You're asking me to diagnose your individual set and give you a diagnosis based on something I can't see, and something you perceive to be the fault. I can't do that without looking at it. I suggested you have someone inspect your unit so that you can determine what needs to be replaced, and I stand by that suggestion.

Same Problem! LN-T4661-F powers up very slowly!

by dern7730 - 8/8/09 12:24 PM In reply to: Is this condidered as help? by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

I bought my tv in June of 2007 so it is at the infamous 2 year mark which seems to be when these power problems arise. I turn the tv on in the morning and it clicks about four times (45 seconds or so) and then finally turns on...with stuck pixels scattered around screen. After this I can toggle the power and it pops on right away, with no pixel problems at all! So it is only when it is "cold" in the morning that this happens. Humidity is not an issue with me being in Arizona. I called Samsung and told them this was a huge letdown and I expected to enjoy this tv for at least 5 years with no problems and they told me "unfortunately some televisions have problems and need to be repaired". WOW! paid well over 2 grand 2 years ago and my wife and I are pretty upset. It seems like this problem is recall worthy with all the complaints on the web.

samsung lcd tv no picture sound ok

by cj_in_pa - 8/16/09 7:15 PM In reply to: Is this condidered as help? by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff

I have a Samsung 40" LCD with no picture but good sound. I have found discussions about this very problem and it seems to be the capacitors on the board (in rear of set). There is hundreds of people out there with this same problem. I have replaced the faulty bulging and leaking capacitors with larger 35v ones from radio shack (about $1.00 a piece, needed four of them). The tv worked great as soon as I turned it on after replacing capacitors, then died the next morning. I checked the board again. I didn't realize capacitors had polarity (pos & neg). I replaced again. TV worked great (again). The next morning (this morning) same problem. No picture but I have sound. Is there anything else that might be causing the capacitors to bulge and leak? Soldering is good, polarity is good board soldering seems ok. Please help.

Same Problem

by slimlove13 - 9/1/09 5:33 PM In reply to: samsung lcd tv no picture sound ok by cj_in_pa

My LNT 4661f started doing the same thing a year ago right after the warranty ran out. I had a tech come out to diagnose it at that time and he was unable to come to a conclusion because, of course, the T.V. started working. I live in San Francisco and I noticed that this problem arises when the humidity is high. The whole issue is ridiculous. Samsung should recall these LCD's. Judging from the amount of posts (not limited to only this site) on this subject, you would think that someone at Samsung would address this issue. Unfortunately, their solution is tell the consumer that the TV is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do about it. Actually, there is something they can do about it- offer to recall the TV's and have them repaired at no cost to the customer (good luck with that).

At this point does anyone here share my same frustration? It seems the only way to get to Samsung is through a class-action lawsuit. Any lawyers out there willing to help?

Humidity

by jimmyo s - 9/1/09 6:20 PM In reply to: Same Problem by slimlove13

My 52" Samsung did the same thing just at 2 years. You are correct with there being something with the humidity. becasue of an unusual warm summer in San Diego I have run the AC non stop. If I turn the AC off the problem returns to the TV within 2 hours. If I turn the AC back on for 45 min the TV fires off just fine. I have repeated this 6 times now with the same results. Give it a try.. The AC pulls the moisture out of the air and your TV will WORK!!!

Sumsung in hiding from the problem.
