Firefox is too slow

by Jedi_1 - 1/28/06 7:46 AM

Ive been using Firefox for a while and it worked fine until I replaced Norton Anti-Virus 2005( the whole suite) with ZoneAlarm 6.1( the whole suite). After ZoneAlarm was installed Firefox got SLOW and I had to reload pages several times to make everything appear.

For example, on CNETs homepage, all the text appears but the pictures and videos dont and the loading bar in the corner seems stuck near the last bar.

My OS is Windows Professional with SP2

Fabulous Extension!

There is an extension you can download for Firefox called Fasterfox. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1269&application=firefox

This extension really speeds up browsing! Try it out!

Another solution would be to get rid of Zone Alarm; sure, it is a great product, but get something like Computer Associates Pest Patrol, an adware blocker that doesnn't compromise your browsing speed.

A suggestion

I think it would be best to keep a firewall of some description installed. Not sure that Pest Patrol would be an alternative for that.

I use the ZoneAlarm Pro firewall with Firefox 1.5 and all seems well. Since you are experiencing slowness using ZA though, it might be worth reading this thread. Hope it will help.

Since we're on the firewall subject...

Two other excellent firewalls are Kerio Personal Firewall and Sygate.

Just thought I'd throw that in. ;)

There's absolutely no reason to panic and switch to another browser. Here's the simple and quick way to speed it up:
