Sorry, but without knowing more about your computer, that's the best guess I can make.

no printer is on
Details are slim so here's what we know.
1. Windows XP (no version, etc.)
2. epsom DX4450 *we'll understand typos like that.
3. No icon in the bar.
4. The printer is on.
-> There are far too many causes for this from failed USB cables, dead USB ports to a corrupted OS.
The 4 items above are not enough detail to offer a fix that has any basis. That is, given this, do that.
In fact it is true that my printer prints without such an icon!
