iPhone on Verizon kinda scares me a bit

by B14ion - 7/14/09 6:34 PM

Molly's latest anti-Verizon rant on episode 1018 reminded me about Verizon's tendency to cripple phones. Given Verizon's phone-locking-down history, will they repeat it with the iPhone?

I imagined Verizon ripping out WiFi from the iPhone after Molly's rant.

It's not coming to verizon any time soon

I would think not until they have LTE fully rolled out, which would be about 2013!
And Apple would never let them touch the user experience of the phone, Apple would sooner liquidate themselves than give up control of the user experience.

Apple understands what busienss it's in. The user experience (where they get it right) is excellent and why the heck would a company who loves their products and loves making them and in turn has people who love using them, ever let a another company cripple that experience for the sake of short sighted corporate greed? Apple thankfully wouldn't, but Verizon would ask because that's just who they are.

would worry too much. Apple has the upper hand.

And Apple has a vested interest in keeping the iPhone user experience consistant and the app store completely under their control. Verizon (along with the other big US carriers) has gotten used to pushing around the other phone manufacturers (hobbling their hardware, disabling or removing features, and installing custom Verizon branded software) but Apple isn't playing that game. If Verizon wants the iPhone my guess is its going to be (mostly) on Apple's terms.

I don't think that the iPhone is going to come on Verizon any time soon because the iPhone isn't compatible with Verizon's network.

i have a verizon phone with wifi... plus att just as bad

by robstak - 7/20/09 4:14 PM In reply to: iPhone on Verizon kinda scares me a bit by B14ion

dont get me wrong, verizon is the devil (see other thread lol), HOWEVER ATT has shown that they are just as effing bad. i pay about 100 bucks a month for unlimited everything and 400minutes of voice. doesnt iphone have a text cap? id ask about mms, but thats not fair ;)

data on verizon, i believe is 3o bucks a month "unlimited" notice the quotes. its as much on att right?

tethering on att is also not free, and if im not mistaken its actually MORE expensive to do so on ATT (isnt there some rumor of 55 bucks to tether the iphone???)

just tryin to keep things in perspective...

not quite...

Verizon wouldn't rip out WiFi, they'd just remove the ability to sync to iTunes and force you to sync through their proprietary servers (for a per-use fee).

They might as well ask Steve Jobs to give up his first born.
No chance apple would agree to that.
