by Limacharlie - 7/21/09 1:39 AMOn December 2nd Freeview High Definition TV on BBC , ITV and Channel 4 will commence from Winter Hill tranmitter in North West England.
I have a new LE37B651 purchased from Dixon's Group two weeks ago, and my question is will my TV be able to receive the HD signal on the DTV input, or if not will Samsung be providing an update of the OS to enable this to happeen.
I already have a Sky Plus+HD box made by Samsung and the HD picture is brilliant. It would be nice to be able to get HD via the normal aerial instead of a Dish, and of course it would be subcription free.
If no-one can give me any information can someone give the correct e-mail address for Samsung in the UK so that I can ask the question direct.

Check the link in the left column for "Digital Tuner". The TV is able to receive free digital channels without requiring a separate Freeview box.
But that doesn't mean you can just turn it on and you will have any Freeview channels immediately available. If you connect it to your external TV aerial then you can tune it's Analog scanner to the 5 main terrestial channels, BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4 and Five.
But I suspect even now, if you use the Digital scanner, you will be able to scan in a number of Freeview channels. That is what the in-built Digital Tuner allows you to do, even though your area does not switch to digital until December.
If you do not connect it to the existing aerial, then you will need to connect an internal aerial.
I also have a Samsung, although not your model, I have a 19" LE19R86 and it has Freeview inbuilt. I talked about it in another discussion in this forum here.

Many thanks for the reply. I already can receive the Freeview channels through my normal TV aerial with the LE37B651. What I was asking was can the TV receive the new HD channels that will be starting on Freeview on December 2nd.

The standard was only recently agreed and there are unlikely to be any products on the market until some time next year. I'm pretty sure new chipsets would be needed, so there won't be any software upgrade. I would be happy, however, to be told otherwise.
