Making a Digital Camera work with a MAC

by rmanr - 1/23/04 10:56 AM

I have read on line that the IConcept Digital Camera (with a USB Serial Bus) by Sakar can work with a MAC, but the software supplied only comes for PC. I have looked for drivers unsuccessfully. Does anyone know how to make this happen. Thanks.

Try to find a camera on the that list. If you have a lead on the Sakar, hunt down that lead and have them cough it up.

What version of MacOS are you running? It is possible that it ONLY works with OS-X or later (or MacOS 9 or earlier, but that's not likely.)
You didn't mention if you had actually TRIED to hook it up. It may be that you DON'T need drivers... as is the case with many Mac compatible devices.
If the manufacturer says it is Mac compatible, and they didn't supply Mac drivers, and they aren't available on their website, this is most likely the case: If you plug it in, it will work. (OS compatibility being the only variable.)

I'm surprised you weren't provided a driver

I'm surprised you weren't provided a driver that was Mac compatible. This is why I try to stick close to the name-brands. I have a Canon Rebel XS digital camera, and just love it. And the drivers that came with it work with both Mac and PC. This is not intended to be a knock on your camera or others like it, but I would make absolutely sure it was Mac compatible before purchasing it.

However, if your Mac is also running Windows, you can install the software into the Windows partition. Jpeg files can be copied from your Windows drive to your Mac drive or your Mac desktop without your having to do anything, for they are cross-compatible.

Try the Kodak Easy Share program

Since it appears that Kodak and Sakar is releasing Kodak-branded cameras, you may want to try the Kodak Easy Share program.

They do have a version for Mac, at:

When you visit this page, make sure you select your operating system in the pull-down menu.

The Canon Rebel does not

require drivers for it to be usable with the Mac.
iPhoto and Aperture both support that camera without the aid of additional software
