Which stereo bluetooth for iPhone 3GS?

by Januss331 - 7/12/09 4:05 PM

My dilemma, I want to listen to music on my phone on the go and be able to answer calls. The bundled buds work great for this purpose, but I'd really like to lose the wires (they get tangled in seat belts and with the strap of my bag)! When I want to purely listen to music, I've got my Bose QC2s.

So I'm torn between a few choices that I can find here on CNET. the Plantronics 855, the Altec Lansing BackBeat 903/906 (which one?) and the Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 (which still has some wires, I know). I'm not too keen on the Samsung SBH600 design-I don't want to completely isolate myself from the world. Just something unobtrusive that I can listen to music (with quality close to the bundled buds) and something that lets me take calls with decent call quality.

Any of those fit the bill? Or should I just wait until something else comes out?

Thanks!

I found the Motorola Motorokr S9-HD to be a fantastic wireless headset. Bought it at Fry's for $79.

I've had great success with this Sony Ericsson dongle that I reviewed here: http://weddie.blogspot.com/2009/07/looking-for-bluetooth-headphone-for.html

The Motorola S9HD might fit the bill but I don't recommend the original S9 unless you can get a big discount. I have the S9 and also a Bluetooth dongle by JVC that allows you to use your own headphones. Obviously (due to iPhone 3G and 3GS not having full support for Bluetooth remote control profile) track skip buttons don't work, but in my case the play/pause buttons on the headphones (which are supposed to work even with nothing but A2DP) don't work reliably.

The S9 gets uncomfortable pretty quickly, but to be fair, my head is a little large. The nice thing about the JVC dongle is being able to use your own headphones, but between the extra wire from your headphones and the weight of the dongle, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of Bluetooth. Also there's no practical way to fix the dongle close enough for the mic to pick up your voice during calls unless you're wearing a button down shirt or low cut blouse.

The thing that surprises me is how difficult it is to find a pair of iPhone mic/clicker earbuds that are not white!

UPDATE

I tried the Voyager 855. I don't like them-mostly because of the buds! They're in-ear and I've NEVER had good luck with in-ear buds, they either don't fit right or they feel like they're just forcibly expanding my ear canal.

I'm not a big fan of the S9 form.

I guess I'm going to try the Altec next-unless I can find a different set of buds for the plantronics! Thanks for the tips folks, keep 'em coming!

Stereo bluetooth headsets

by dan1000 - 7/16/09 1:24 PM In reply to: Which stereo bluetooth for iPhone 3GS? by Januss331

I just bought, for my 3G S, and have used for a few days a set which is not mentioned on CNET.

The Jaybird JB-200 is perfect for me because they have all the bluetooth stuff in modules that fit behind the ears with only a slim wire between each ear phone. They are extremely comfortable and stay in place even while jogging or working out.

I looked at some by Motorola and was turned off by the big band going behind the neck. They have a tendency to bounce during workouts and get pressed out of position while in a sitting position.

They switch easily between music and phone calls. Jury is still out as to how great the phone mic is. Not good in a noisy situation but otherwise ok.

Sound quality is good and battery life is good. Worth checking out.

altec lansing 9066

I did have the best wired sets, 3 thou testing. and there is no way to test other than buy. I am still trying to Jabra b1010. I can't seem to figure out how to put them on . I like the idea of a speaker just outside my ears. I didn't buy the Motorola hd10 headset but it was the same design as the s9 which I do own and the fit after a time is tiresome.
the Enty8 is wonderful. amazing sound. if only thry had a mic. the altec Lansing backbeats 906r are also amazing. Very good phone quality. People icall comment on the quality. the music is the reason to get these. I look forward to the release of the new Nokia hadset that thye say is the best ever. .
