Hi,
Does anyone know of a free music editing software that i can download. i need to be able to separate instruments from a track so i can pick out the bass and hear what they are playing.

So far such is only in engineering research and development. You won't find such even if you had a suitcase of cash. In other words, "something you see in the movies" or the future.

You can do what you want to do, if you are using midi music.
(song files that end in .mid)
There are thousands of free midi files on the Internet.
To edit them and separate the tracks, you need a "sequencer" program.
The most popular sequencer is put out by Cakewalk.
But there are free ones to be found too.
