Firefox 3.5 ( available ) should be about IE 9. So you can skip IE.
I am not going to explain why, everyone else can or already has. Just do yourself a favor and avoid IE like the plague. Use either Safari of Firefox. Happy browsing!
IE8, no question. Microsoft is pushing it as a high priority update, it is miles ahead of IE7 (which is miles ahead of IE6) and more web sites will look and work more the way they are intended. Additionally, if you really don't like IE8 there are ways you can set it to run like IE7, instead. Ultimately, I would say to scrap IE in favor of either Chrome or Safari, but if your heart is set on IE, you really should go with 8. If for no other reason than the fact that it is at least 5 to 10 times faster than 7. Good luck.
You should definitely upgrade! It's safer and a bit faster (especially with your system 0o0). Just don't bother with seven. Eight is eons in front of that goodness-wise.
IE 6 was made for a whole different genration of systems and web design and you can say that for IE7 as well. Cutting to the chase Stay with IE 6 or 7 on XP
In this day and age of VISTA 64Bit OS IE 8 works quite well. I have a Toshiba E105-S1402 (4gb ::2.26 Ghz 320 HD) and it works flawlessly in run web application, web sites and I don't have any issue. In my work I need realiability and speed. So my answer to is quite simply IE8 will work fine on a newer system for which it was designed.
Therefore, I suggest that EVERY user get GOOD system and get past this issue...

If you're still using Internet Explorer 6, you can consider yourself an official Luddite. If you are asking if you should upgrade, maybe you should consider moving in with the Amish. All you IE6 users are the ones that make being a web developer a tough job. Having to compensate for for the inadequacies of IE6 is a major contributing factor to the ongoing economic crisis. Instead of actually creating knowledge and working to improve humanity we are stuck having to compensate for your unwillingness to stop using software that's older than the car you're driving. If we weren't working so hard to keep up with your lack of standards support, we could've worked faster, making more revenue for our companies, thereby allowing our companies to contribute more corporate taxes so that the government could afford to have more financial regulators. Then we'd have caught the predatory mortgage lenders and millions of Americans wouldn't be out of work right now. So thank you for my job security and challenge, but make sure you go out and apologize to all your friends who lost their jobs, it's your fault.
Simple answer: Just stop supporting the piece of crap. Flash an obsolete browser box. Corporate Merica will respond and in 3 months, all will be good. Sceptin IE7 and 8 still don't support W3C but they are inching closer. Secret to success: Make Them The Outliers!!!

Hi I used to have IE 7 and should have stayed with it. BIG MISTAKE I downloaded IE8 nothing but problems so I tried to get back IE7 no luck it seems that once you have upgraded there is NO going back.
I just have upgraded Firefox to version 3.5 and it really rocks. I've updated IE to ver 8, but I did it only as for code testing purposes only. And it is really slower. I've allowed Safari (3.x) to update to version 4 and did not work anymore....Apple says it is faster than Firefox, I really do not know. I could not test nor even open without a failure. and the damm message to Micosoft.
Let's see, where do I start? I thought I had a virus or something after installed IE8. Some of my programs quit working, I could not open email attachments also. I simply can't express the number issues I've had with Microsoft products since I bought a new Dell PC with Vista 64. If fact, I don't like the new Windows Mail the new Windows Office programs, or IE8. The new Adobe Acrobat stinks as well.
you need to switch to firefox 3.5. it is a much faster, stable, and secure browser.
Firefox is the king of all browsers! Faster, safer, more custimizable, and much more reliable and sturdy. Try you will love it!
If your current browser is working o.k.then stick with it.Various updated browsers can take over your computer,e.g.IE 8 has problems with displaying mixed content, and it does not respond to your altered advanced settings.you will see the warning message every time you open your email.Firefox is not bad,but it does not give you the option to create a desk-top shortcut,I've tried them all,and have gone back to IE 7,you can do a lot to tidy up your system,1st go to "Set program access & defaults" choose "custom" & grant or deny access to programs of YOUR choice. Also in your Trusted sites in internet options,DON'T put anything in,just leave it blank, then there is no conflict between http;// & https;// addresses. You can always block a sender if you want. The secret is don't install anything that conflicts with programs that are working o.k. Goog luck Terry.
Um, you can easily create desktop shortcuts with Firefox. First, make it your default browser. Then, when on a site you want to access from your desktop, drag the little favicon (the little icon next to the URL in the address bar) to your desktop. That's it. So the only reason you gave for not using FF is moot.
That "ain't broke" old saying is old thinking. Not to mention that his current browser is actually NOT working okay. IE6 never worked okay; it's a buggy piece of crap. Its security issues and web standards support are pathetic. Plus, the sooner people stop using it, the sooner my job as a web designer, hacking up my own perfectly valid XHTML and CSS just to get it to render properly in IE6, the better.
So from the web design community I plead, STOP USING IE6. PLEASE.
Let me put it this way. If you could get a free, new, fast, safe, sleek, customizable, efficient car to replace your old, inefficient, unsafe, ugly, clunky gas guzzler, wouldn't you? Just go to http://www.firefox.com and try it for yourself. Uninstall it if you don't like it! But I guarantee you will like it.
As a web designer, I can't count on everyone upgrading from IE6 which presents difficulties necessitating workarounds, so I have IE6 on two machines, IE7 on one, and IE8 on another to cover all bases. My wish is for everybody to at least upgrade to IE7 which would make my life much easier!
For browsing, I use Firefox and wouldn't think of using IE at all.
