Alienware Area51m 7700 video module

by adam2565 - 6/24/09 9:17 AM

five years ago i bought this alienware computer with the main purpose of being able to upgrade a lot of the components in it later in the future. i am now trying to run sims 3 and it works fine for about 20min before my computer tells me my video card stooped functioning properly. it is using a ati mobility radeon 256mb video card. which to my belief meets the minimum system req for the sims 3. but in any case i was looking to possibly upgrade the video card but i cant find any. but I am curious to if there is any at all, and what is the best possible one that i can get

Ask it's current maker.

Dell bought them up so check there.
A search like http://www.google.com/search?q=Alienware+Area51m+7700+video+module finds some claiming to have the cards however I'd avoid the 8600.

Clevo

Back before Dell bought Alienware, they didn't make their own designs, they just modified Clevo laptops. the 7700 is a version of the Clevo D900, which depending on which exact version, it will support MXM Type-3 or Type-4 graphics cards, perhaps even in SLI. In either case, you definitely should be able to get some kind of upgrade.
