I have many 8mm tapes, some are the basic tapes and some are the Hi 8 tapes. I wanted to convert these to dvd. I read where the best way to do this was to use a digital 8 camera and it would be able to convert both types of 8mm tapes. I went onto Ebay and bought a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder, DCR TRV 280. When I recieved the camera I put my tapes into the camera and they would not work. I went on line to see if I could figure out the problem. I found information which told me that in order to view and transfer my tapes I would need the DCR TRV480 or above. I was so upset that I spent all the money on the camcorder and it would not work. How, and on what can I convert my tapes? All I want is a camera that will be able to transfer both types of 8mm. Any ideas on what would be the least expensive model to buy that would do this for me?
Thanks, Melanie
You will likely discover you want to have the camcorder that made that tape(s). After that you MUST describe what "best" means to you. I get the feeling that your best would be a 99 buck camcorder that works and not much else. But let me share my 2 (two) methods.
1. I use a DVD RECORDER.
I found a 55 buck DVD SET TOP RECORDER. I connect the A/V cables from out to the in, configure the recorder, pop in a blank DVD media and then press play on the camcorder and the record button on the recorder. I come back in 30 or so minutes to get the finished media.
2. I use a PC. This method is the worst when it comes to 6 hours of work to get 20 minutes of video. There are no standards here.
