I have a 40" Samsung LE40A856 and it doesn't automatically switch between 4:3 and 16:9 when connected to MySky HD box over HDMI. It does it correctly with the internal digital terrestrial tuner. The auto format menu option when connected over HDMI is disabled (it appears in grey and it's not selectable). I've tried the same equipment (same box, same cable) in another TV set (LE40B541P7W)I bought a few days ago and it all worked without problems. It's a less good TV set (on the paper), but it can handle automatic format detection better than my LE40A856. Both models HDMIs are 1.3 compliant and I've read they should support AFD. Any suggestions? Anyone experimenting the same problem?
Is your picture format set to "just scan" or something?
Yes Chuck: just scan ("solo scansione" in italian). The "Auto format" option is greyed out when the selected source is HDMI.
andbald13,
There are two sets of picture options. One is in the television, and the other is the output aspect ratio of the Sky box. Have you tried adjusting the output settings in the Sky box?

yes, I tried all the possible combinations of tv and sky box settings. the "smoking gun" is that the same sky box, with the same settings and the same HDMI cable, connected to two different Samsung TVs (a series 5 and a series 8 both with the same internal settings) work with one (series 5) and not with the other (series 8). any guess?
andbald13,
As Chuck eluded to, try turning the Just Scan feature off. After that, I'm not sure I have an explanation.
