Please help me

by bayoubabe - 7/2/09 8:27 PM

I am looking to buy a new digital camera and I am so overwhelmed. I currently have a Sony DSC-W90. It taked decent pictures most of the time but it is VERY slow to process them.
I am looking for a camera I can put in my pocket and go. I want it to take very good (if not great) photos in all kinds of conditions and have a fast processing speed (I take a lot of action shots).
It would be nice if it had a zoom greater than 3x but I don't think that exists. Oh yea, I don't want to spend any more than $150.
Please help me.

No such thing. Especially under $150.

See the "Compact camera with good image quality..." thread for the reason(s) why.

I read the 'Compact camera with good image quality' post and I don't understand most of it. Price isn't so much of an issue (to an extent), I can work that out. So, what is a small camera with good image quality?

Your going to have to have realistic expectations

Your post of "I want it to take very good (if not great) photos in all kinds of conditions and have a fast processing speed (I take a lot of action shots)." is pretty unrealistic. That's the quality of a DSLR in an ultracompact. If you want the best ultracompact then look at the Canon SD 880,970, or 990. If you are willing to accept a slightly larger camera then look at the Fuji F200EXR or the Panasonic LX3.

What kalel33 said above.

But to recap, as noted in the other thread, very good to great picture quality requires a large sensor--this is particularly true with action shots--but a sensor this large will not fit in a pocket size camera.

As snapshot pointed out in the other thread, the F200 has a relatively large sensor for a shirt pocket size camera (although even this sensor is still tiny compared to the sensor in any DSLR), but the F200 sells for around twice your original budget of $150.

And that is how I arrived at the statement in my previous post in this thread, "No such thing. Especially under $150."
