I need to set my hard drive to its original state via the recover disc that eMachines provided me. Only thing that my dvd/cdrom drive recognizes is music files. Therefore I cannot even reboot my pc from the dvd to use the recover disc. I've tried to find the dvd decoders or the codecs but cannot fix this.
What is the OS in the system? Vista or XP. It is possible that you have a software settings issue since the drive does run audio but need a little more info.
1. No drivers are required for us to use Restore CD/DVDs. You may find people ask for such but don't give them that since it's not the issue.
2. If you set the BIOS to boot from CD/DVD and that fails, the number one reason is that the CD/DVD drive is a few years old and needs to be replaced. Again this is an area consumers will dig in their heels and you as the repair person has to gently help them get past that and show them the new drive fixes it.
