Has anyone had experience with aftermarket batteries for canon. Do they last as long or are they worth paying the lower price. I found these on accessorygenie but I dont know if they will work as well as the orginals

Due to issues with non-brand name batteries, camera and other makers have begun to lock out non-brand batteries. As a product designer I can see why. The liability issues are far too great.

I have lost some faith in aftermarket battery manufacturers, but it is not to say there are not good, reputable companies. Most ecommerce retailers are fairly safe to shop at as long as they have a visible contact number and an actual address listed on their site.
Looking at the accessorygenie site, they seem fair and reputable. I suggest caaling the site if you really are worries that the battery will not work as well as the origional and see what they have to say.
Thanks to all for the great ideas.. well I got the batteries today from that site www.accessorygenie.com . I got them quickly and so far they are workign out ok.. I took about 75 photos and it seems I still have some power left.. I'll let you guys know more as I use them further. Thanks again guys
With the continued complaints about batteries made in China, I would be very cautious.
I believe the Canon battery type is called NB-2L and you mention CN-2L.
You mention accessorygenie as a source for this battery.
I am having problems with the source.
A search of that site does not show that they sell a CN-2L battery.
A checked the source site with resellerratings.com and they give the source a lifetime rating of 6.47 out of 10.
That is not a good rating.
The source website does not tell me where they are located.
I would be concerned about buying a battery from that source.
Caution all around.

Thanks so much. I am new to these type of forums and the information I received has been very helpful I took the advise and contacted the company was happy to hear they offer a 3 year warranty. I also checked out that seller rating site you guys mention and I see lots of really good reviews about the company
The price seems right so I will hope for the best and provide an update after I receive them. Thanks again
Apparently you only read the first page of resellerratings individual reviews.
Most of pages two and three are not favorable.

From what I have scoured, brands like Hama (and, I think, Hahnel) supply batteries which match or outperform the camera manufacturers' products. As I recal both are long established camera accessory brands who have relied on distribution through traditional camera stores so have to sure of quality. They're not the cheapest substitutes, but still a big saving against originals.
