Firefox. Try opening and using IE 7 or 8 on someone else computer. That should give you an idea.
You didn'i say whether or not you were running Amd or Pentium. if your running Amd you can upgrade to IE7, but dont try IE8, lots of errors, and the annoying dep box popping up all the time. If your running pentium this shouldn't be a problem. I have heard various reasons for this but i am unsure which one is accurate. hope this helps.

It's nice to be able to browse multiple pages in one browser, and IE7 and IE8 are much safer security wise. Google Chrome is also a very nice browser and looks great.
I upgraded from IE7 to IE8 and that was a mistake, IE8 is very slow on XP. I fought this problem for months, then tried Mack safari for windows, best and fastest with more features than MS.
Dump Internet Explorer all together, Download firefox. Its so much easier to use and safer.I've heard so many having problems with IE, but none with Firefox. Just my option.
I have XP Pro. I ried to upgrade to IE7 when it first became available. It was a total disaster. I agreed to share with Microsoft the error reports. One problem, IE7 locked my system up where the only way to recover was a "hard reset". In other words, cycle the power switch. No way to do a memory dump had I the time or the inclination. I went back to IE6. I have downloaded IE8 on one machine to give it a test drive. So far so good. It doesn't look a pretty as it could because I'm running XP. I don't really care. IE7 looked good on Vista machines. I use them at work because of the nature of my job.
Go with IE8. You can always go back to IE6 as I did on that one machine.
Honestly I tried the explorer 8 and had nothing but issues,my recommendation would be a big no,unless someone else can tell me how to properly download it.Because honestly it just screwed up my puter.
Forget IE. Try Safari for Windows or Firefox.
While IE 6 is tried and true, it's way behind IE 7 in features and usability. I'm a tech, and I've upgraded many computers to IE 7 without a hitch, and I've even upgraded to IE 7 to solve unsolvable problems in IE 6.
As for upgrading to IE 8 you might want to hold off. I've heard stories that it won't load some web sites, and at this point compatibility is definitely a problem. Some people are even holding off on Windows 7 because it's bundled with IE 8 and they don't like it. As with most new Microsoft products, it's often a good idea to let them get the bugs out and let web publishers get up to date.
I forgot to add that you can easily go back to IE 6 if there is a problem -- at least you can go back from IE 7. I'm not sure about IE 8.
I would suggest that you find, download and have in your download list a copy of the present version on your drive in a folder you make called setup programs ...
Microsoft has been a problem so the first thing you should do is download the setup files for IE 7 and IE 8 then use the setup for IE 7 ... and test it well... do NOT let Microsoft DO the UPGRADE automatically ...
IE 7 may contain some things you need to do before it works well...
As for IE 8 There are too many horror stories and I presonally do not want to be a guiney pig of fun the latest dissater.
One should install any program and use the Uninstall Feature in the control panel of Start, if there is a program problem or conflict
...
My experience with IE8 is that it is the slowest browser on the planet. Many times, pages simply refused to load at all, forcing me to copy/paste the link to Firefox, Chrome or Opera, where they opened immediately. I've just rolled back to IE6, and (despite all its limitations) the pages all load quickly. IE7 seems to be OK, but why bother with Microsoft anyway? There are SO many advantages to Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Flock that IE is simply irrelevant. So, my suggestion would be--stick with IE6 for pages that won't display properly without IE. For example, one of the major financial trading software companies designs their pages to only load in IE. A stupid and benighted policy, but that's their choice. For anything else, use one of the other browsers.

Last week I upgraded my IE 6 to IE 8 ,I faced a problem with yahoo
messenger so I returned to IE 6 by removing the update from the
add & remove in the control panel , I hope this will help
I have had no problems with IE7,havent tried IE8 yet because of horror stories I heard, but its on my wifes PC and no problems yet,she usually plays 6 tables of poker at the same time so it should be all right.I had more problems with IE6 than any of them, generally because of overclocking,IE 6 couldnt seem to keep up with the speeds I run.I'm running IE 7 and Firefox with CPU@4.0 gig, with memory at 1800mhz,and HT@ 2800mhz. IE 6 would constantly quit 2 times an hour with a IE has encountered a problem message. IE7 none yet.I generally wait till MS has cleaned up their messes before I take the plunge. And Windows 7 RC seems to be the cleaned up mess that Vista should have been.Already preordered that.
Your computer should work fine with IE7. I installed it in a 4 year old Compaq with XP and it is good. You can always uninstall it and reinstall IE6 anyway. I have an Acer TS 690 that came with Vista Home Premium and IE7 so I downloaded IE8 and tried it for six weeks, but it didn't work well so I removed it and reinstalled IE7 which works fine. The IE8 would freeze up about every hour just reading mail. Good luck.
