How often do you change your passwords?
-- Once a week. (Why so often?)
-- Every other week. (Why so often?)
-- Once a month.
-- Every six months.
-- Rarely. (Is it a strong password?)
-- Never, I live on the edge. (Is it a strong password?)
I rarely change my passwords but I use very strong passwords.
I don't even have a system password because I'm the only one who uses my computer and I trust the members of my house. As for passwords on the internet, not very often, I feel its kind of useless obviously security experts will disagree with me but I also don't have many passwords that could lead to sensitive information...
You should never bother with passwords. Here's why.
A proper password should be a confusing mess of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols. And long. It should be so long and confusing you could never hope to memorize it. Nor should you write it down.
Therefore, since you yourself can't remember it, it's entirely pointless to have one.
My rule is I only change passwords monthly for anything that relates to my money and for those accounts I never go below 256 bit encryption.
Hard to remember such complex passwords but with the help of the free Keep Pass "http://keepass.info/" to generate, save and record all my passwords I don't have to remember them.
I don't understand how to change passwords. (I know the mechanics--just do it--but I don't understand the practicalities.) For instance, I have not logged into cnet for at least three months, maybe 4 or 5. If I had changed my password every month, how would I know what my cnet password even was, so i could get into the system and change it? I don't even know how many different things I have passwords for, so how could I go in and change them every month? That would become my full time occupation.
I do nothing online that really needs protecting ( no banking, shopping or other seriously exposed items). Biggest damage I'm expecting is some MIGHT post here instead of me IF he/she guessed my password for log-in!
Of course this is because I'm TOO paranoid to risk anything on the net! LOL! ![]()
I never change passwords... I use a strong one with all kinds of symbols and stuff. Never had a problem with it (so far...)
Always strong passwords.
I have one good password that I use three ways depending on my security needs and I never write it down. I will change my password only if I think it's been misused. I read somewhere that if you're always changing your passwords you will someday use one that the bad guys can guess
I used to change my e-mail passwords every 60 or 90 days(Cause' I've already have actively 7 e-mail and various social network accounts!). So my security have been improved and have less bad experiences or hacked.
I never change my password. it is a 32 digit long and the short one i use is just for login in to some sites.
The 32bit is for on line banking. i know it off by heart, i never show this to anyone.
Think of your pin code. 4 digits. 0-to 9 and work out how many variations there are. This is how credit cards are stolen and duplicated. with a decent hacker and the right tools, you could crack a code on a card in minutes.
Add one digit and the odds go up.
32 bit is near impossible, but again, with the right tools that can be hacked as well.
As with bank passwords. do not use words, date of birth, or something which can be assumed. the best is total ramdom letters and numbers. this can make like like hell to decode, actually, the only computers that can break it is official computers.
So if you have to keep changing a password, then it is possible to lose it or just forget.
As said, some programs will find them.
Thats an ouch, but did you know they only go to 8 digits. i use 32.
Enough said
I picked never, but than realized I change it every time someone makes
me. I just had to change it to get into this post site. Nobody remebers
passwords.
Never. I consider mine to be strong, however only half as strong as smk11111.
Why is it advised to change passwords? Do hackers spend months trying to hack the same account?
Because I use Roboform (desktop and portable) for maintaining and generating strong passwords, I rarely change my passwords.
