iTunes shutting down when I try to watch TV Shows

by dmgm - 6/17/09 4:19 PM

In the last week, whenever I try to play a TV Show iTunes shuts down. It doesn't happen with movies, music videos, etc... Just TV Shows.

There was this fellow that downloaded the TV show via a torrent. In his case the encoding was unacceptable to iTunes.

iTunes TV Problem

That guy isn't me. I'm the guy who actually buys the Music Videos. All the TV Shows I'm talking about were purchased through the iTunes Store. It was all working fine until this past weekend. I didn't change anything on my end. I don't remember if there was an iTunes update.

Sounds to me like a codec issue still. Have you installed any third party software to watch videos?
I personally have Perian installed without any issues, but you could have a bad installation of a similar software causing the problem. Other than that I would guess at FairPlay DRM causing the issue. There are limits to the number of iTunes accounts that can purchase items and play them on a single device, limits on the number of authorized computers, and others as well. If you "Get Info" (Command + i) on the video you can see what account it was purchased through on the Summary tab.
