I remember seeing the video from teh snakes on a plane premier. And I was like.. who are these people with the voices I like.
They are geeks, attractivness never came to mind when listening.
OK, I haven't been in the forum in a long time. But today I scooted over here to see the response about the 1000th episode, and came across this thread.
Besides some of the really mean things some of you have said about Natali, I take big exception to the statement that I'm not (or wasn't) a geek.
I got my job at CNET not just because I was an audio engineer, but because of my love for technology and gadgets. They wanted someone who fit into the environment, as well as being capable at their job. My entire life, I've loved computers, gadgets, internet culture (even as it was growing), science fiction and fantasy, and video games. Sure, maybe when I first started speaking on the show I wasn't very sure of myself (can you really blame me?) and maybe I wasn't up-to-date on all the latest news stories, but that certainly doesn't mean that I wasn't a geek.
You, sir, have probably given me the greatest offense possible. To question my geek cred, now or in the past, is unbelievably insulting to me. It's my lifestyle and something I've always been very passionate about, and if you couldn't pick that up in the years that I was on this show, then maybe you need your geek cred checked.
Love,
Veronica
Veronica,
I cannot emphasize how much I miss you on BOL. I'm sure the rest of the folks here will agree.
From the start there was true chemistry with the BOL team.
You ARE a geek! And you know your stuff.
This is why Ive been a devoted subscriber to Tekzilla when you made the move to that show.
U Rock!
Dear Veronica,
I don't care what anybody says. In my eyes you are a geek goddess. To my experience, you were the first female character that was into tech stuff as much as I am, and that fact will never change.
As for the some really mean stuff people have said here about Natali, I'm hoping she's taking all those lightly and in a productive manner despite the thorns. I realized that being far away changes the game big time.
I like Natali, although i find she is a bit tense for the BOL style where she "jumps the gun" a bit sometimes, before "getting" what the other are talking about.
But i like her contribute to BOL, my favorite episode so far was Natali + Tom + Ryan Block. In terms of how the news where debated, and how "productive" it was that was the best BOL i listened to in a while.
Although i also like the general BOL goofiness
And for that nothing is better that having Molly ![]()
Natalie is a beautiful woman but she just doesn't fit into the Buzz Crew. Raf or Brian would have been a much better choice. She doesn't seem to have much background in technology, leading her to blurt out random things to hide this point.
I have listened to BOL since the late 200s, but sadly I find it increasingly hard to listen anymore.
It seems like the only reason that she's on Cnet is to put her on the major networks and video. I know it's just a podcast, but she seems like a Dodge Prowler: pretty on the outside with nothing under the hood.
I really did try to give her a chance, but after weeks of listening to her, I can't give a thumbs up. She has no passion for tech, you can hear it in her voice, and she sounded completely put off by the guys talking Star Wars once. She reacted like they were a bunch of geeks and she was the cheerleader.
I pretty much agree that Natalie has brought down the quality of the show. When Veronica left Jason stepped in nicely, however the Molly to Natalie transition hasn't been so great for me.
The thing that bothers me the most is her arrogance. She just doesn't fit with the rest of the crew. I still like the show but slowly I have been looking less forward to BOL at the end of each day.
I have had had a number of e-mail exchanges with a number of people at CNET G4 TV and have even had the pleasure to talk to Kernighan and Richie (developers of C).
I worked for years doing web sites for Olympic athletes and do IT security work for many large organizations. And I have to say in both my personal and professional life Ms. Del Conte is one of the least arrogant people I know.
Maybe it is a tone of voice or something that somehow gives you the feeling of arrogance.
Don't get me wrong I think Molly was great and if we could have Molly on any show it would be great. I think having a four member crew with Molly, Nat, Tom and Jason would be the best idea. But to call Del Conte arrogant. I just don't get that at all.
I have been a daily listener for over two years, but think I going to move on, at least for now. It is a combination of Natalie plus the occasional addition of Brian. That dudes personality drive me up the wall. Plus I cant help but think of how big his thumb ring and hoodie collections must be. I think Natalie will be a temporary fixture on this podcast. She has a face for TV and I think that is where she will end up full time. CBS or any of the big networks would probably be happy to have her around. To the average TV viewer she will come off like Bill Gates with a much more attractive package.
I've been a long time listener and can't take it anymore. I'm sorry but Natalie just doesn't fit in on this show. It has nothing to do with her personally as she is great on Loaded. Brian Cooley would be a much better fit or just have the guest person of the day be the third co-host. The show doesn't need 4. It all comes down to chemistry and Natalie is miscast. The Veronica/Jason transition was smooth but this is not the same and I can't listen to the show daily anymore. It will be Monday's only for me now.
I Second That!
Having the guest be the third host or brining on Brian fulltime is the way to go. This current setup is not working.
I also agree, I think the rotating guest should be the third host.
I think it would be better if Natalie were only on once a week and not a regular host.
