Same Exact Thing Again at BroadwayPhoto.com

by marciajerry - 7/21/08 6:43 PM In reply to: BroadwayPhoto is the devil by homewood

No need for me to write exactly what happened to me as it's been written by others numerous times. My story is the same, except I was ordering a Sony camera. By trying to save $30 over my local brick and mortar store, I would have paid more than double with BroadwayPhoto.com after their Bait and Switch pressure tactics.
I got a real bad feeling and called my credit card company to put a hold on any charges that might come from BroadwayPhoto.com. The credit card company promptly cancelled that card and I am relieved. Trying to get through to customer service to cancel the order took at least 25 attempts. Then they told me they would refund that which they had already charged to my card. My credit card company said I stopped the charges in time and no charge went through, so I don't know what they planned to refund. I wonder what would have happened if the credit card company hadn't cancelled that card. As my husband says, it's sometimes a good thing to pay attention to that gut feeling you get telling you something is off.

We need to Stand UP to companies like these

by Equinesweetpea - 9/17/08 3:26 PM In reply to: Same Exact Thing Again at BroadwayPhoto.com by marciajerry

I have been scammed by this company just like a lot of you. I have sent my story to John Stossel (20/20) at ABC news. I encourage anyone that has been ripped off by Broadway Photo (or any of their affiliates) to send your stories in as well. The only way we will know about companies like this is by National News. Not every online search will turn up reviews like this, but TV broadcasting can reach more people and help save all us a lot of money! Please send your stories

Interesting little gimmick they are doing now

by rhomp2002 - 6/19/09 6:56 PM In reply to: We need to Stand UP to companies like these by Equinesweetpea

I only looked at their website to get some pricing from them on cameras yesterday. Today I received an email from them offering me all kinds of deals with prices lower than believable and 20% off their already mentioned prices. It just smelled wrong to me, just too desperate, so instead I ordered from Abe's of Maine. The prices were fairly close but the company is a whole lot more respected and I check what they have to say about most of the electronic stuff I am interested in. Good company to deal with. Guess I just lucked out that I didn't fall for the Broadway Photo scam.

One thing I did notice is that they were selling a new mixer. The mixer is the 2 generations older model of one I currently own and the price was not much lower than the brand new version is.

Vanns is safe.

I recently ordered a Panasonic FZ18 through vanns.com (through amazon through vanns actually). I got nearly 20% off retail, and free shippings with UPS tracking. Item arrived on time and brand new. They are a discount supplier you can trust. I keep hearing broadway sucks really bad.

broadwayphoto.com experience

I placed an order for a Pentax K200D digital SLR camera on 9/23/08. I received an email the next day to call them for order verification (first time that ever happened, and I order stuff online frequently). When I called I was asked whether I wanted the Japanese model or the American model. I was told that Pentax makes two different models; one for Japanese consumers only where everything is Japanese, including the software, and another for everyone else. When I said that I wanted the non-Japanese model I was told that the price was not the one advertised on their website, which, at the time was $477 for the entire kit (a price I thought was too good to pass up). I was told the price was close to $600. I canceled my order and immediately called the credit card company to be sure I had not been charged for the transaction. I contacted several Pentax dealers and, of course, they said there was no such animal as a Japanese model. The bait-and-switch scam has been taken to a new level with these guys. If I had checked on CNET first I could have saved myself a lot of grief, since the CC company said I should get a new account. My experience with Broadway Photo motivated me to join this forum. The lesson: STAY AWAY FROM BROADWAY!!!

We need to begin massive defamation

by DVeet - 9/25/08 6:12 PM In reply to: broadwayphoto.com experience by meridian441

Seriously, back when I decided not to do business with these ******** I immediately called the photography magazine that advertised them. I talked to one of the head people of the magazine and they told me about how Broadwayphoto.com was a reputable company and how they have been in business together for a long time. These guys are just ripping innocent consumers off and pretending to give great deals, and then paying off people to advertise them and to make them sound like a legit site to buy cameras from. Stay away from Broadwayphoto.com and do whatever you can to spread the word, Broadwayphoto.com is a scam and they are getting away with it. I would like for everyone who is willing to cause as much defamation as possible to Broadwayphoto.com to do it. I hope that someday they will be too unpopular to do any business.

By the way

By the way, just buy from Amazon.com, they have fair prices and sometimes great package deals or shipping prices.

we'd never buy from broadwayphoto.com again!

by pixels16 - 9/29/08 11:12 AM In reply to: We need to begin massive defamation by DVeet

We placed an order for a Panasonic TC-32LX85 32-Inch 720p on broadwayphoto.com and we too received a "call us to verify the order" email. We called and the guy ran down a list of additional items that he wanted us to purchase. He wouldn't take "no" for an answer and refused to ship it unless we buy more from broadwayphoto.com. It's bs. We don't know if those guys take the bases off their HDTVs or something, but the base is available only at extra cost. Needless to say, we cancelled our order.
There must be something that could be done to stop broadwayphoto.com from scamming consumers who are less assertive/savvy?

Add me to the list.

by swstant - 1/26/09 3:28 PM In reply to: we'd never buy from broadwayphoto.com again! by pixels16

Yes...had I taken 15 seconds to simply key 'broadway photo' in Google I would have saved myself a world of hurt. But I was in a hurry and didn't so now I get to add myself to the Hosed By Broadway Photo list.

Started a facebook page for anyone interested. Just an effort to catalog the horror stories about these jokers & as an informational resource to help prevent any more people from being duped like I was. I stand to gain nothing from this other than the satisfaction of trying to fight back.

Thanks,

Broadwayphoto.com is still pulling the same stunts

by iplaydu - 6/4/09 2:15 PM In reply to: Add me to the list. by swstant

I truly wish I would have searched for BroadwayPhoto.com reviews before I ordered from them.

I placed an order with BroadwayPhoto.com the morning of Wednesday, May 27th. On Friday, May 29th I received a call from Broadway Photo asking me to call them back about my order.

*** The call came from a fake phone number
*** I had to listen to the message 3 times because the guy spoke really fast and only gave his call back number once.

When I returned the phone call he asked is my shipping address was on file with my credit card company.

**** Not only was my shipping address on file my bank called me a few seconds after I placed the order to make sure it wasn't fraudulent.

Then the guy from BroadwayPhoto.com tries to get me to buy a bunch of accessories. I told him no thank you I like to research the products I purchase before I buy them. But he continues to push until I firmly tell him I don't need or want any accessories at this time.

It's Thursday, June 4th and my order still hasn't shipped plus my credit card has been charged. I've contacted my bank and they've reversed the charge and BroadwayPhoto.com can pound sand.

Wholesale Genius Inc., SLR Genius,

by Charles_Bronson - 6/7/09 6:55 AM In reply to: Broadwayphoto.com is still pulling the same stunts by iplaydu

Wholesale Genius Inc., d.b.a. AllPCGenius.com, CamcorderGenius.com, CellularGenius.com, CloseoutGenius.com, NaviGenius.com, PlasmaGenius.com, ProjectorGenius.com, ReceiverGenius.com, SLRGenius.com, WholesaleGenius.com

All bait and switch scammer sites. I'm usually so careful when it comes to stuff like this, but like a dumbass, I ordered from them. Got a call a few days later from a real a**hole of a salesman trying to tell me a battery and charger wasn't included ect. I argued, I got mad, I cursed, I didn't give in, they canceled my order. I ended up closing my checking account of the card I used just to be safe, but I was never billed from them. I've also read that a lot of those price comparison sites are fake as well.

I'll definitely google search in the future before I order from any unknown sites. I ended up purchasing my camera from Newegg and was very happy with their service.

Bait and Switch

by snapshot2 Moderator - 6/7/09 7:50 AM In reply to: Wholesale Genius Inc., SLR Genius, by Charles_Bronson

If you use Google to find the lowest priced camera (of any type), you will find lots and lots of bait and switch sellers.

Google accepts advertising from bait and switch sellers.
So the top links that show up on a Google search are likely to be bait and switch sellers.

When you say Google accepts advertising

by Charles_Bronson - 6/7/09 8:42 AM In reply to: Bait and Switch by snapshot2 Moderator

from bait and switch sellers, you're saying they know these places aren't legit? I find that surprising and yet I'm not surprised at all. In fact I think I remember reading that somewhere else, too.

Yep

by snapshot2 Moderator - 6/7/09 1:05 PM In reply to: When you say Google accepts advertising by Charles_Bronson

I notified them myself several times.
I got replies that they would look into it.

Others have done the same.
One reported that he got a reply - - - "let the buyer beware"

Wow, if that's true that's terrible. *sigh* The almighty dollar wins again, I suppose.
