I got to watch live up to Tong showing up. My thoughts:
1. A little awkward watching the video while the audio clips were playing (producer moments in the beginning), but I'm sure that was OK on the audio podcast. Maybe some fullscreen graphics with the audio clips would have been better (like with Needleman later), but no biggie.
2. It was so obvious that the whole "Natali" thing had to be addressed. I guess they did it in a smart way, talking about how tough it must be on remote, etc. But everyone's faces told the story, as well as Natali, herself. I liked her response about finally just saying "I don't care". I'm sure that's not true since everyone wants to be liked. I still don't get why her co-hosts didn't really rally around her, but maybe there's a backstory there.
That said, she looked great, and probably regretted wearing a dress.
3. Who were those people in the studio audience? I figured more BOL regulars would have been invited.
4. I'm impressed with the Cnet live streaming. I guess it's Flash-based. Leo LaPorte via Skype? Not so much. Very poor audio/video sync.
5. Pretty creative listener videos.
Anyway, that's it for my first impressions. Yours?
... where was earthlink voice guy?
Not quite what I expected from BOL1000. I guess I was hoping for more discussion between the regular hosts and more clips from episodes (though naturally I didn't contribute any myself).
Still, the hour flew by pretty quickly and I enjoyed it, though watching the video version live probably didn't add that much to it.
Also, I was pleased that they used my intro, though I would have preferred that they use this one:

But I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

Rigorous, detached evaluation. Congratulations on a thorough, robust critique.
I got to see most of it, but I gotta see it again. I love Molly and Veronica, but Natali looked AMAZING. I really enjoyed the MacGuyver openings.
How come the audio was so bad in the TV studio. Started sounding its usual best and then when they went into the other studio it sounded like crap. Sounded like they were using RF microphones with massive interference problems. All the remote guests sounded fine.
Well, they went to the conference room, which was right by the windows. There's very little (aka NO) regulation of microphone frequencies in urban environments. Where I work, we used to get interference from theater stages up the street.
Molly's rf lav mic crapped out, so they finally gave her a stick mic. And then whoever was running the board didn't pot it down while she was swapping out mics, so you could hear all the noise from clothing, handling, etc. The audio mix just wasn't that good in the conference room, but I'm thinking they didn't really practice it much.
I thought it was wonderful; Natali's new perspective...
I was soo nice to see everyone just hangin' out and chatting about the 1000 episode ride
And I gotta say, when Natali said she realized she just needs to chill out and remind herself "I don't care" - I thought, THAT'S the spirit!
So, with that new realization, now I'm really looking forward to how she will grow with the group.
Best,
Shalin
I thought the 100 episode was really good..Very enjoyable and went by so quick!
The format worked well of everyone just sitting around in the studio...(sorta morning TV like)
like, episode 1010 is only their 10th episode.
And also, why did nobody mention brandy or collusion when Cooley was pouring drinks? Maybe it was the smell of the alcohol (or Cooley's open shirt) that threw everyone's train of thought off track.
