I'm ecstatic to hear that Natali's role has been reduced!
Sure, its not removing her completely, but we're on the right path!
I don't care whether this thread helped or not.
Bottom line is we have less of her, which is more listening to BOL for me.
Wow, there is something to be said about most of the posts on this thread.
I liked what each host has brought to BOL, but I guess some people just don't like change.
But seriously, don't go giving yourselves too much credit for the host changes.
...we just didn't like BAD changes.
I really don't understand the "hating" going on in this thread. Natali brings a different and very interesting perspective to the show. Maybe some listeners just aren't comfortable with hearing those outside perspectives and that saddens me. I attribute many of the "Chemistry" comments to her time delay by being in NYC. Stop the hating and grow up people.
Natali, you do a great job (on all of your CNET shows) and I am very sad to see your time is being reduced! I love your energy, investigative professionalism, and really enjoy what you bring to every show you do. Keep up the good work girl!!

I personally liked Natali much better when she was in the studio in person. Being together brought more correspondence between parties. But I'm still happy to have more of the other BOLers.
This new rotating scheme suits me great. And having acedtect everyday is just a blast although it'll be relatively more tiring for him. Tom is awesome, awesome and awesome.
I've been one of the people in this forum suggesting that Natali withdraw or step back her roll on BOL. I don't hate Natali, and love it when she appears on the 404 and definitely loved her recent appearance on Gadgette's. She just wasn't the right fit for BOL.
Now that a change has been addressed, whether by reading this thread or not, I suggest that we now close this thread so that all the haters don't have a place to spew their rubbish. That was never what this thread was about, and should be removed or at least closed to emphasize that.

What happened to the line of thought that this thread had nothing to do with Natali's current changes?
As long as everyone can be proper and respectful, why should we all be allowed to express our opinions? This thread has done a great job of doing just that. I thank the mods for giving the community the chance to vent their feelings on the subject.
Fans and haters are a part of buzztown too.
Everyone's opinion is valid. I've been listening since episode circa 50. Never emailed, posted on here or called in. Never felt compelled to until now.
My own personal opinion, I can't stomach her. Taking Molly/Veronica out of the equation completely, Natali is rude, condescending and incredibly self centred. I'd listen as she jumped from insensitive, inane, uninformed comments to irrelevant, uninteresting personal anecdotes. Her desperate attempts to shoe-in what she learned from 60 minutes each week are laughable. Fanning her ego and self-promotion are an accurate summation of her contribution to BOL thus far. Unfortunately for her, she hosted alongside knowledgeable, interesting people who made her overbearing flaws seem a lot worse. BOL was simply a career progression move for her that didn't pan out.
Dismissing negative opinions as "haters" isn't fair. I gave her more than a fair chance but it got to the point where I rather skim through BOL after 900 or so episodes of dedicated listening. Every other host/guest seems hand picked whereas Natalis inclusion is a mystery. She's far better suited to reading off a tele-prompter in Loaded.
I'm glad she has less input and will be even gladder when it's none. The length of this thread and postings of episodes where she is edited out are self evident. The community has spoken. Move on Natali. You're better off without BOL. If this sounds mean, it's only a by product of honesty.
Anyways, moving forward, any suggestions for her replacement? We're spoilt for choice but my vote goes to Cooley or Dr Kiki.
P.S. Rafe = Legend. He's the dark yang to Tom's light-hearted ying.
Based on my experience, when someone says "I can't stomach [noun]" and then goes on to describe [noun] with a string of negative adjectives, that usually indicates that they have a very high dislike for [noun]. Therefore, the term "haters" is a fair assessment.
I'm glad that Molly Wood, Brian Cooley, Rafe Needleman, and Brian Tong were given more airtime, but I also don't want Natali be removed from BOL. I like her input, and I feel that she completely deserves her place in BOL.
Although I appreciate the breakdown, the word "hater" has modern day connotations that imply that my dislike is without basis and for the sake of it. My view is merited. If I was basing my opinion upon her looks for example, I would considered a hater. Forming my view on NDC's active contribution to BOL over the space of a couple of months is not. Its a critique that disfavours her.
So yes, it is just semantics and my feelings remain the same. Good riddance.
I've figure it out...at least for myself. I do think Natali has her flaws (like all of us), but I don't think she's getting the same fair shake as the rest of the crew. She came in about the same time the CBS bought CNET & Molly was backing down from BOL. Somehow I (along w/ others, I presume) got the impression that somehow Natali was brought in to push Molly out. I don't know Molly personally, but she is very beloved as far as my mp3 player is concerned. This gave me hostile feelings towards Natali (though I didn't realize this til later). Therefore, every mistake she made was magnified in my mind.
Someone in this thread posted a link to a blog post that Molly wrote that was partially about why she is backing down from BOL:

After reading it I slowly began to realize that this was her decision and she wasn't coming back (at least not full time). I stopped blaming Natali, or CBS, or whoever was responsible for the "replacement". And as soon as I accepted the fact that she was at most going to be part-time and nobody was pushing her out, my hostile feelings for Natali just melted away. She doesn't bother me at all anymore. Though I don't have the connection w/ her that I have w/ Tom & Molly (who I've listened to for hundreds of episodes), I enjoy her input and personality on the show. Yeah, she makes mistakes (just like the others), but now I respond to those mistakes just like I do the others...through a normal lense, rather than a magnifying glass. And what's best, I have the show that I enjoy so much back. Not b/c they "fixed" it, but b/c I "fixed" my viewpoint.
Of course, as soon as I accepted her as part of the show & began enjoying her, she now becomes part time. What's the deal with that?
Anywhoo, I'm done with this thread & I'm unsubscribing. I hope somebody gets something out of this, so they can get their show back too.
Buzz on!
OK, I've tried to be as nice as I could. I don't hate Natali as a person, I've said it countless times (probably three). She has her place at CNET (maybe twice).
But today's episode, 1009, is breaking my camels back (poor Mustafah!).
What with the "teeehehe... *giggle* ... Joy cruise!" ... *silence* and the "I'm trying to make a contribution here ... /put upon" and then the weird turn against Arstechnica just because she doesn't like Verizon?
I'm only half way through the episode, and I am having a really hard time going on. She has two of the industries leading commentators, and she's the one bringing up the possibility of lousy journalism?
I'm sorry... she's snide, she's arrogant, she's uninformed and worst of all, doesn't realize any of it, and believe she's entitled to BOL. Well you should have worked for it, love, instead of just hoping someone else would make prompt cards for you!
I'm going to leave this post alone from now on (I hope). It's getting me to irritated knowing that Natali is still on the show.
Josh
PS - this rant MAY be because of my being really sick at the moment, and tired, but I dunno...
I hate to beat on this rotting equine corpse, but my thoughts exactly. Since I have started listening again after about a six month break, the show has changed from the older episodes back in January. Natali adds a sense of irrevernce to the content. My skills at tuning her out have become much better...
Natali needs to stay with BOL. She provides great insight the latest tech trends. Since she became a BOL host, I haven't seen/heard of any signs of snideness, arrogance or obliviousness.
I am happy that the other hosts are getting more airtime. To be honest, I was relieved that Natali didn't completely leave the show.
I actually like the new schedule.
"She provides great insight the latest tech trends"???
