I'm considering a Pulse smartpen. I've read very mixed reviews; some people swear by it everyday, and some are complaining about the proprietary software and having to use their software. Apparently, I've also heard that it records too much ambient noise.
If anyone has any experience with this device, please give me your feedback. I'd like both good and bad, but make sure you have a really good reason (as in, I don't want to hear that "it sucks", and that's it.) Give me a good reason why. If it's bad, I'd appreciate a suggestion as to a similar product in the same price range.
Thanks!
P.S. If this would go better in a different forum, would someone notify/move it for me?
I've been using my Pulse for about a year and am happy with it. The software they provide is called Livescribe Desktop and it is included and very easy to use. Livescribe Desktop is where you store your notes and replay them after you upload it.
The recording quality is pretty good. Its better or equal to any digital audio recorder out on the market right now. Most of the time I record audio (meetings, classes), I am not in a noisy environment, so there isn't much ambient noise to deal with. But, if you are sitting in the back of a lecture hall, chances are its gonna have a hard time recording the sound. But the good thing about the Pulse is that it comes with these earbuds you can plug in to record sound 3D, and that usually fixes the problem.
The only thing that I can say that would make this the ultimate product is if they released apps for the Pulse. The Pulse has so much potential, but I don't feel like it is being used. They released an SDK recently so hopefully that gets people to create some pretty cool stuff for it.
Overall, the Pulse smartpen is a great product to use if you are constantly taking and sharing notes.
I think this post would be more approriate in the electronics section.
Do you have to be wearing the earbuds, or just have them plugged in, in your pockets? My school doesn't allow iPods, and so...earbuds=iPods...
I actually plug my earbuds in and lay them under my notebook such that the actual earbuds are dangling off the top corner of my desk, when I'm in class. Make sure to spread the buds apart about half a foot, just as if they were in your ears. I've noticed it captures audio a lot better when the earbuds are plugged in.
As for the Pulse itself, I like it a lot. I'm an engineering college student, just finished an arduous junior year. I pretty much used it for all my technical classes that were filled with graphs and charts and greek symbols. If you're the kind of person that looks through old notes when preparing for tests, this product is pretty useful. The REALLY fuzzy topics are just a click away from being a lot clearer! The professor re-explains everything (as you re-listen that audio)!
Hope this helps.
